Many people have heard of mandrake from Harry Potter, and I’ve seen a few drawings of them, but not many that are based on a real mandrake. In fact, and I know a good few very intelligent people who were surprised to learn that there is an actual mandrake plant, even though it’s a very ancient magical herb, and is even mentioned in the bible.

This is possibly because it’s quite hard to get hold of in non native countries- I drew this one from observations of my sons plant (for the root) and the excellent specimen at the botanical gardens in Oxford (always worth a visit but remember mandrakes die back in the summer so it’s not always visible).

I painted this mandragora using FW inks, but it’s in my grimoire so the original isn’t for sale- you can have this reproduction print shipped directly from my excellent printers framishly, in A4 or A5 size (A5 prints can be purchased in a separate mini print listing by selecting mandrake)

Its a deliriant hallucinogen which might explain its prominent place in magical lore, but It’s also very poisonous so don’t eat it, even if the berries look like those orange cherry tomatoes.

Open edition.

The original was painted using FW artists inks, and has been professionally digitally reproduced.

I adore this print. It came in a very dreamy dark purply blue tone rather than black and its so much better. The detail is gorgeous and it has pride of place over my desk. It arrived the same week I ordered it too. No complaints! I love it.
