Many Monsters - A6 risograph art zine with hybrid creatures, featuring a labyrinth in a fold out map, inspired by medieval manuscripts

A zine and a game in one! This fold out art zine is full of monsters. Each page has one monster, illustrating perhaps a character type or a state of mind. When unfolded, the zine shows a large maze: can you navigate your way through the maze, avoiding the monsters within and without?

Drawing on my lifelong love of medieval monsters and bestiaries (with a nod to the "Kennicott Bible" in particular), this zine considers various monsters we meet in our daily lives, at work, school, on the internet, and within ourselves.

Risograph is a unique printing process straddling the divide between printing by hand and machine-printing, and is best described as screenprinting with a photocopier. Its bright inks made from rice bran oil (a waste-product from the rice industry) and the low-energy cold printing onto uncoated (usually recycled) paper not only give it a very distinctive look but also make it a really sustainable and environmentally friendly printing process!
The nature of the process is such that there will be slight differences in ink coverage and registration, which ensures no two prints are the same and makes for its charm and popularity. The colours may also differ slightly from the colours on your screen.
