Lost [Lives Unlived]

A personal reflection on my journey through pregnancy and baby loss.
Following the urge to acknowledge the existence of our lost babies - too precious to deny or forget.
Talking about it means facing it fully, regretting - accepting - healing - slowly.
Remembering - always.

This book is an exploration of the delicate subject, about how to find healing.
It addresses why it is still such a taboo to talk about it and why this particular grief is often expected to remain private.
It aims to challenge this notion by breaking the silence and starting a conversation.

First published during Baby Loss Awareness Week, 9th-15th October 2020.
50% of all proceeds will be donated to Sands - Stillbirth & neonatal death charity.

"As a new year beckons this may well be the most important self-published endeavour I have reviewed in 2020 and one that absolutely embodies the power of the form in connecting creator and reader in ways that no other medium can. Critical evaluation feels superfluous here. If you read only one small press comic from everything published in 2020 then it needs to be this one." - Andy Oliver, Broken Frontier
(full review here: https://www.brokenfrontier.com/lost-lives-unlived-anja-uhren/)

The book is available in 3 different formats:

1st Edition - handmade Concertina Book | 13.6x13.6cm | 156 pages

2nd Edition - perfect bound Softcover Book | 14x14cm | 156 pages

German language version - handmade Concertina Book | 13.6x13.6cm | 156 pages

The content is exactly the same, only the book form is different.
All formats also include a copy of my 16-page mini concertina from last year - 'Sowing&Growing'.

My mum had a similar experience like the one that's been illustrated and she told me, she saw herself in the book on every single page. It's a stunning book, the colors are absolutely beautiful and the paper feels really silky. The ripped edges of the pages make you want to squish to book together so you can run your fingertips over the soft edges haha! The most outstanding part is the art in it of course. The story telling is lovely, and even as someone who hasn't experienced something like that myself, I cried a lot reading this. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves art and raw feelings. I'm gonna show this off on my bookshelf <3

As a bereaved mother myself I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand what it is like to lose a baby. Anja’s words and illustrations are absolutely stunning and I could feel her pain and her endless love for her angel babies through every pages. She created a beautiful book that every bereaved family should have in their library. ✨💜

This is an incredible visual story of the complex journey of losing a baby. Whether you have lost a baby and need words of healing, or you are supporting a woman in your life who has lost a baby and desire deeper understanding so that you can be present with her, or you are a professional seeking to reconnect with your calling to work with women on this journey, this book is an incredible place to begin. What an incredible gift Anja has shared with the world. I will be ordering more as gifts for loved ones and colleagues.

As someone who has experienced both stillbirth and miscarriage, I found this book incredibly raw, honest, and powerful. The illustrations and text perfectly capture the whirlwind of emotions during and after pregnancy loss. It's almost as though the exact moments and emotions I experienced were turned into a book. A must-read for anyone who has experienced pregnancy loss.
