A handmade stoneware mug suitable for tea, coffee and all your drink needs!
These mugs are all thrown on the potters wheel. When I have thrown a dozen or so I leave them overnight to firm up and become "leather hard". They are then trimmed to neaten up the base and refine the shape. The handles are added at this stage and also a band of brown slip (liquid clay with oxides or stains added to create the colour) to the rim of the mug. They are then left to become completely dry, before going into the kiln for their first firing - to change them from clay to ceramic. Once they come out of the kiln I dip them in a white glaze and carefully wipe the rim of the mug to remove the glaze and reveal the brown slip. They are then fired again to 1270 deg c to vitrify the glaze, making them strong and durable.
*Please Note* Although these mugs are dishwasher safe, hand washing will be kinder to your handmade mug!
As each piece is handmade by me there will be slight variations in shape size and glazing.
