Create your own useful Tubby boxes using my pattern.

***** This is a PDF pattern, not a finished product*****

Whether you need to organise your sewing space, your desk or if you need to take care of your growing DVD or games collection, these boxes are just what you need. They come in four different sizes and you can choose to make a patchwork or plain version.

Skill level: Confident beginner +
This is a fairly easy pattern with nothing too complicated. Experience of applying binding would be useful but not necessary as I give detailed instructions on how to do this.

Finished size (approximately):

Square Boxes
Small: 5" W x 5 ¼" H x 5" D
Large: 6" W x 6 ¼" H x 6" D

Long Boxes
Small: 10" W x 5 ¼" H x 5" D
Large: 12" W x 6 ¼" H x 6" D

You will receive, 9 pages of step-by-step instructions with helpful tips and photos. I’ve provided the measurements you need to make a plain tub if patchwork is not your thing. In the last section I give you some ideas for customising your boxes, including how to make and attach handles. This is a cut and measure pattern so there is no need for templates.

You will need:

- Strips of different printed cotton fabric to make the string blocks (1"–1 ¾" in width).

- Cotton printed fabric for the lining (fat ¼ - half yard/metre depending on the size of your box).

- Cotton printed fabric for the binding and handles (optional).

- Plain neutral cotton fabric to use as a foundation to stitch the string blocks to.

- Essex linen or cotton fabric for the base.

- Single-sided fusible foam (16" - 25" width, depending on the size of your box). Bosal in-r-form single-sided fusible, Pellon Fusible Flex foam, Vlieseline Style-Vil fix all work well.

- Medium-weight fusible interfacing for the handles (optional).

Equipment and Tools:
Rotary cutter, cutting mat, quilting ruler, scissors, thread, iron, Wonder clips/binding clips, pins, trick marker/disappearing fabric pen, corner and edge shaper, seam ripper (just in case) and a hand-sewing needle for stitching the binding.

You are welcome to make and sell your own Tubby Boxes on a home-based production level.
