Jane Tilley

I was born in Rugby in 1971 and live and work from my home in Warwickshire, England which I share with my husband and two children. I studied Graphic Design at the University of Wales graduating in 1992 then spent many years working within the print industry.

Like most artists I've been drawing ever since I was able to hold a pencil. I draw every day, being creative is not an option for me, it's a necessity. The older I get the stronger and more overwhelming the desire to create becomes. It's like eating and drinking to me now, I couldn’t survive without it.

In 2013 I started experimenting with wire after stumbling upon the late Alexander Calder's wire sculptures. It was an epiphany to me, I could actually make my drawn lines come to life, make them jump off the pages of my sketch books and into free space, like a 3D pencil. So excited, I bought some florist wire and borrowed my husband's wire cutters and gave it a go. Working two dimensionally at first, my creations started to receive positive comments and when asked if I could create a three dimensional sculpture of an antique Kodak camera for a friend, I took on the challenge and was pleasantly surprised with the results. In fact, that camera is now one of my most popular items in my Etsy shop. So eventually in 2014 I opened my shop and have never looked back, and now thanks to Etsy, I have recently taken the plunge and am a full time sculptor. I've never been happier :)

I have a great love for birds and am lucky enough to have a large garden which includes lots of feeders and a bird box with a camera inside which the great tits nest in every year. My creative interests lie in Art Nouveau, Japanese art, Abstract Impressionism, collage, fashion of the 1700's and Abstract landscape paintings. I also LOVE music and have an extensive collection of CD's and vinyl. Listening to music and creating my sculptures go hand in hand. Apart from sculpture I'm also interested in Interior Design, Architecture, Photography, Fashion and Textiles, Landscape Gardening.......in fact I could do with living to 500 so I could accommodate all my interests! No wonder my brain feels like it's in creative overload sometimes!

I love receiving commissions and have completed many for the public and private sector, due to this my subject matters are varied, from birds to cameras, architecture to shoes. My sculptures have sold all around the world and I also create very detailed exhibition pieces which has seen my work win four awards.

My head is bursting with ideas and I'm on a life long mission to push the boundaries of wire as a medium.
