Welcome to A and T Petersen’s Etsy policy page.

We are a family business –our candles are made and decorated entirely by hand by mother and daughter team, Trudi and Pearl, all our ironwork is made by (husband and dad) Aaron , occasionally helped out by eldest daughter, Saskia who is pretty nifty with a hammer and an anvil. Trudi runs the websites, facebook page, twitter account and online sales and does most of the admin work whilst everyone pitches in for packaging. If you would like to know more about us you can visit our websites www.ferricfusion.co.uk and www.pearlsdreamcandles.co.uk

Returns and exchange details
Our refunds and returns policy has been written in line with current (2014) EU distance selling regulations.

If your product is faulty we will be happy to replace it. You will however need to return the item to us; this will mean that you will need to pay any return postage costs.
If you wish to return an item that is not faulty (for example, if you have changed your mind about it or decided it doesn’t suit your needs) You have 14 days from the receipt of your goods within which you have the right to return your item if you wish to – you do not need to give a reason but, again, you will need to meet the costs of returning the item. If you are returning a candle within this time we can only accept candles that have not been lit unless there is clearly a fault with the candle.

There are exceptions to the above – custom made or bespoke items that we would be unable to resell if returned (i.e. personalised candles, ironwork made specifically to fit custom measurements) are exempt and we will not accept returns on these unless they are faulty. In this event a replacement item will be offered. We will always endeavour to do this within the shortest time scale we are able to manage but please bear in mind that as our products are handmade we will need to discuss timescales for personalised/bespoke replacements on a case by case basis.
Payment
Payment is by direct checkout or PayPal. Items will not be sent out until payment had cleared Non payment will be followed up within one week if an order has been made. If we have no contact within two weeks of an unpaid order we will cancel the order and place the item back on sale. Refusal to pay or persistent refusal to respond to requests for payment may result in negative feedback. This is something we would much prefer to avoid. If you are having difficulty paying please contact us and discuss things directly.

If this is not possible we will endeavour to contact you to inform you of this and advise you of how long you may need to wait. . Items will be sent out to the address provided on the order unless otherwise requested

Our items are sent out via the standard Royal Mail parcel delivery service. Should you require express delivery please contact us, this is likely to involve an additional cost – this can be discussed on a case by case basis.

Small candles are packaged in cello bags before being additionally packed in protective material.
Additional policies and FAQs
Candles and candle safety

Our candles are made from high quality refined paraffin wax and plant waxes that are sold specifically for the making of candles. We use candle fragrances that are specifically identified as being suitable for use in candles. Our fragrances are added a maximum of 8%. Our surface decoration is wax based – i.e. gilding waxes, wax paints, etc. We occasionally use glitter which is identified as suitable for use on candles. We sometimes use clear varnish that has been identified as suitable for use on candles. We never use flammable materials such as fabric or paper and we do not use acrylic or oil paints to decorate our candles. We do occasionally use inserts such as glass beads and stones – where inserts are used they are of a non flammable material. The customer is advised to removes stones/beads from the wax pool or holder as soon as possible and to bear in mind that they may be hot. We want your candle use to be as safe as possible.

In line with current (2014) EU candle safety regulations, all our candles are provided with a card outlining mandatory candle safety information in both written form and using pictographs. Additional candle safety and burning information is provided with each sale – please read and follow the instructions to ensure your safety and to get the best from your candle.

Ensure your remove candles from all packaging prior to lighting.

Never leave a burning candle unattended and never leave on one when you are asleep – accidents can happen if you are not aware of what your burning candle is doing. Feeling tired? Extinguish the candle.
Never place your candle near anything flammable such as a curtain. (This includes keeping them away from wooden window sills, people have been known to set fire to their window sills by having a candle pushed too close to the wood)
Keep candles away from children and animals
Keep candles away from draughts
Extinguish using a snuffer or by pinching the wick with wet fingers to prevent spatter.
Don’t burn for longer than 4 - 4.30 hours at a time
Keep the wick pool clear of debris
Don’t carry candles around – keep them on a safe and secure surface

Making the most of your candle
Our freestanding candles are designed to be burnt on a flat flameproof surface or a candlestick/holder. Many people like to burn candles inside glass ‘hurricane’ covers but we find that burning our candles inside a container isn’t the most economical way of using them, as the candle burns down the heat surrounding the enclosed candle can lead to uneven burning and wastage.

Our large pillar candles have a burn time of around 80-90 hours; our smaller pillars are around half the size and burn for around half that time. Make sure your first burn takes the wax pool right across the top of the candle – for a large pillar this will be around 4 hours, for a smaller one around 2 hours. After this burn your candle so it just reaches the edge of the last burn. That way you avoid a tunnel being formed which may lead to the wick drowning.

Make sure you keep your wick trimmed. If your flame is too large your wick may be too long. Put the candle out and when the wick has cooled just pinch it down. Some highly decorated or highly fragranced candles can cause the wick to ‘clump’ and it may need more frequent trimming. A new candle may burn with a slightly larger flame to start with. In the unlikely event that your candle won’t light, dip the unlit wick in the molten wax of another candle to get it going.
