About Achpopuli Farm

My little piece of paradise in the hills above Loch Ness is home to my beautiful flock of sheep. I bought the farm in 2018, and am implementing a regenerative farming system. This provides a patchwork of habitats for wildlife, and promotes soil and livestock health. The methods include mob grazing my flock and planting lots of trees. We also farm cattle, ducks and geese, who each have their roles in the regenerative process.

I got into the fleece business by accident really, but have found it is something I really love - and is the perfect activity for cold days by the fire. Wool is currently an undervalued part of sheep farming, despite the current trend towards sustainable clothing. So I decided not to sell my fleeces to the wool board, as it wouldn't be worth the diesel to drive them there, and local spinners thought the fleeces were a bit too full of vegetation for them to buy (grazing tall grass and diverse fields means lots of seeds and stems!). So I joined my local felting club and started to experiment, and discovered how (with my mum's knitting prowess) we could make beautiful items that showcased the variety of fleeces from my flock. The ultimate in traceability, knowing which sheep the fleece is from! And in time, the wool will be from our flock too.
