Wild at heart, Dan loves to create, reflecting all of which he loves about Nature

Dan spent his childhood in the woods; he climbed trees, cooked on campfires, and stepped through faery archways straight into the Unseen World where he talked to tree spirits, rode on the backs of unicorns and began his life long love affair with the sacred, the ancient and the beauty of the natural world.
Thirty years later (he will be celebrating his fortieth birthday in April) Dan is often found roaming in the woods searching for twirly sticks or antlers to turn into beautiful pendants or findings for his bags. Or he could be found scouring the sea shore hunting for fossils or beautiful oval stones to adorn with spiral carvings, (it is not uncommon at this point for him to be sucking a perfectly round pebble).

Dan is artful with his strong hands, he has an ability to be present and observant enough to see wildlife which I would have dreamily wandered past. This amazing quiet observancy has given him an eye for attention to detail, together with his passion for wild natural forms and the history of our ancient isle, Dan's talents have led him to design and make high quality items that are not only beautiful works of art, they are also constructed in a durable and practical way and have the timelessness of heirlooms.

Dan's dedication to his Earth honouring way of life has enabled him to keep waste to a minimum; all materials are used to their maximum potential (even offcuts are recycled and reused). The majority of the wood, antler, stone and bone are consciously locally hand gathered from our magical landscape by us or friends and acquaintances with a similar ethos and high regard for animal welfare.
The majority of the leather is sourced from local industry where it was considered to be a 'flawed' produce destined for landfill! Dan brings this beautiful material to life with his delightful creations, honouring the spirit of the animals which would otherwise have been forgotten.

Dan's workshop is situated in our home in Glastonbury, Somerset in the South west of England, he settled here in 1998 after falling in love with this mystical place. Glastonbury which is also known as the Ancient Isle of Avalon (Avalon meaning "land of apples") is nestled at the foot of the mendip hills. Inhabited since the palaeolithic era, the mendip hills have the highest concentration of prehistoric burial mounds (tumuli) in Europe. The ancient Welsh tribes brought their chieftains and buried them on the mendip hills.
There is a great wealth of myth and legend associated with Glastonbury spanning a broad range of spiritual views; Pagan, New Age, Christian, Buddhist to name a few!

The constantly unfolding history of this magical corner of this ancient Isle has been continuous inspiration for Dan's work, he often visits the world famous Glastonbury Tor. The Tor is a tween place, it is said to be the Gateway to the Underworld from which the King of the Faries Gwynn Ap Nudd (pronounced Gwynn up Neath) led the Wild Hunt on Samhain collecting the souls of the dead.

Many of the Arthurian legends also have their home in Glastonbury, Warrior Hero King Arthur and his knights of the round table set forth from here on the Quest for the Holy Grail, and Glastonbury was Arthurs final resting place, his grave was reportedly found in Glastonbury Abbey by the monks who lived there in 1190BC.

Dan's leather bags are not just special because they are inspired, unique and beautiful, they also carry a LIFETIME GUARANTEE! Dan is so confident about the strength and durability of the construction of your bag that if it ever comes apart (because of the stitching) simply mail it back to us and Dan will mend it for free!
