5 out of 5 starsThis was a great pattern for my first attempt at cable knitting - easy to understand and the beanie is beautiful. Will definitely remake this!

4 out of 5 starsFun, easy pattern. The only problem is it ends up pretty loose, so I’d adapt it if I do it again.

A soft and cosy knitted home!

The shipwreck of the Plassey is another island landmark: wrecked in 1960, but without loss of life.

I'm lucky to be from this beautiful part of the world: Inis Oirr, the smallest of the Aran Islands.

O'Brien's castle is one of Inis Oírr's landmarks - built in medieval times, within a fort that is 1000s of years old!

Since joining etsy, I've been directly inspired to write knitting patterns, by customers requesting them : )
Aran warmth and tradition in designs with a modern twist.
I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands, combining traditional elements of Aran knitting (e.g. cables, lattice work) with more modern techniques, such as seamless knitting, to create my own original designs.
I first learnt to knit when I was about 6, and, at school, we moved on to Aran knitting pretty quickly! I kept knitting over the years, as a hobby, and also started knitting some items for my cousin to sell on Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Islands. And then came the thought: wouldn't it be nice if people could buy genuine Aran knits without having to come all the way out here?! So I started making some items which would be nice and light and not cost too much to post (keeping costs down for my customers : ))
It was a logical next step to create knitting patterns so others could recreate my designs.
I'm always happy to hear from you if you have any queries about my shop!

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging
All my items are wrapped in crepe paper for free; if you would like sturdy wrapping for a festive occasion; please choose the gift wrapping option when ordering and let me know any special requirements (e.g. Christmas gift/birthday gift).
Care instructions
All of my knitted accessories (except items which have stuffing, like charms or baubles) can be machine-washed on a gentle wool wash at 30 degrees, or hand washed if you prefer. Certain items, such as cafetieres and tea-cosies, have been knitted in a more hard-wearing wool/acrylic mix: these can be washed in a regular machine wash at 40 degrees.
How long will it take you to post my item?
I aim to post your item on the following business day.
Can you send my purchase direct to the gift recipient?
Absolutely! Just let me know the address of your gift recipient, and I will happily post it there directly, with a handwritten card containing the message of your choice.
What if my order doesn't arrive?
I would recommend paying a little extra for registered post (which includes tracking) if this is a concern. If your (international) order has not arrived 30 days after shipping, please get in touch.
Is your business eco-friendly?
- I believe that wool is one of the most environmentally-friendly fibres in the world; being renewable and biodegradable. Most of my knits are made using natural fibres; with the exception of knits which need to be machine-washable (such as tea cosies).
- I take care to wrap your order in biodegradable materials (crepe paper and wool tie). Shipping bags are not always biodegradable; but this option is used when available. Shipping bags are recyclable in most countries.
- A packing slip is not included, to save on paper waste, and duplicating information already available online.
