The Birth of Artisan Crafts by Kenzo

Artisan Crafts by Kenzo is a passion.

After finding myself needing a powered wheelchair in 2016, I found I needed to find a creative outlet to replace what used to be an active life. Artisan Crafts by Kenzo is one of the things that helps me to stay mentally active and passionately in touch with that inner creative spark.

When I first opened the Etsy shop in September 2018 I was crocheting in acrylic and cotton because it was cheaper and I needed to see if my neurological issues would permit me to crochet on a regular basis - but my passion was always to switch to using organic yarn.

I closed the shop temporarily mid 2019 so I could plan my way forward. In the November, I built the Artisan Crafts by Kenzo website: and on the 30th December I reopened the shop with my new items in readiness for 2020.

Each item is hand made by me with love and many of my products you will find have been crocheted in the Tunisian crocheting method which means I have many stitches on the hook at the same time; the Tunisian method creates beautiful designs.

I use GOTS Certified Organic Cotton because I want to help to protect the earth, protect the animals, and protect my customers from the harsh chemicals otherwise used in the processing of yarns.

However, there is one section that uses 100% Alpaca Wool (the Alpacas are pets) which has been personally, ethically sourced and is offered as a limited edition. In this section I crochet with two yarns together, the organic cotton and the wool to give it an ultra soft feel which is not harsh or itchy on the skin, the organic cotton also gives it more body; the blending of both yarns offers unique items that are soft and of exceptional quality. For more information on the yarns I use please see the FAQ's section.

Artisan Crafts by Kenzo is a one man band, so it will take time to build up my collection of artisan crafts, so if what you want is displayed, it means I have either one in stock or I am just about to complete another one, I never have more than one in stock and I often create one offs, so please buy what you want when you see it because I may not be crocheting another one.

So……….. I welcome you and I encourage you to come back often to see what else I have added.

Until then, walk in love and may you always find peace within – Kenzo

Frequently asked questions
Are Your Garments Made in a Smoke Free Environment?

Yes, they certainly are. No one in the house smokes.

How Do I Care for My Product?

• Hand Wash In Cool Water
• Do Not Tumble Dry
• Dry Flat
• Iron On A Low Heat
• Do Not Bleach

What Materials Do You Use?

• GOTS Certified Organic Cotton Yarn – If it doesn’t have the GOTS Logo, I won’t use it.
• Ethically Sourced (Personally) I00% Alpaca Wool
• If I use buttons or ribbons or anything else, they may not meet all the below criteria.

What Else Can You Tell Me About the Yarns?

As well as being GOTS Certified Organic Cotton & 100% Alpaca Wool, the yarns are also:
• Sustainable
• Vegan (except for the Alpaca wool)
• Fairtrade
• Hypoallergenic (unless you have allergies to wool)

The Alpacas are pets who have freedom of movement and are not part of a vast breeding program, they simply required clipping. The yarn has been ethically and professionally obtained, cleaned and spun but not dyed.

How Do You Package Your Products?

Most products are packaged in a box which is then packed into a cardboard box for mailing. The outer box will more than likely be a reused box in order to help the environment, please recycle it responsibly.

For smaller items that fit through the letterbox, your product may come in a jiffy bag or small mailing box that has also probably been reused.

What About Fairtrade?

We hear a lot about fairtrade and addressing the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. Fairtrade enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives, but that is often related to farmers etc in poorer countries.

As a skilled artisan, I also need a fairtrade for my work, much of my work takes hours, it is a specialist market. But much of what can be handmade here in the UK can also be handmade overseas for less wages, so it has become common practice to buy from poorer countries, import and sell those same goods at a cheaper price whilst many artisans here in the UK are left to the side. Please don't forget Fairtrade for British Artisan Crafts.
