Announcement   Welcome to my Etsy shop for Atlantic Rose, beautiful sterling silver jewellery handcrafted in Portstewart, on the wild and beautiful North Coast of Northern Ireland.

You might notice a little blue logo on my shop banner and on some of my listing photos (I'm in the process of adding them). I'm supporting #JustACard, a campaign designed to help encourage people (just like you) to support small independent businesses (just like me). As you already shop on Etsy (or at least are curious about what Etsy sellers, and others like us, have to offer) you are already aware of the wonderful variety independent crafters provide. Your custom is valued and very much appreciated. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

All my listings show examples of my packaging. However, I am in the process of changing over my packaging with high quality jewellery boxes made from recycled materials. All jewellery will now come in a black velvet gift bag with the Atlantic Rose logo, inside a black presentation box and not in the leatherette boxes as shown. Please bear with me as I update my product descriptions and images to reflect this new packaging.

Its nearly that time of the year again so if you're planning on purchasing something as a Christmas gift I have listed Royal Mail's last posting date for the UK and International orders below.

This is to allow for designing, making, any alterations and hallmarking. Hallmarking is done by the Edinburgh Assay Office so I need to send pieces away. The Assay Office usually return pieces within a week, but this can take longer, especially at busy times of the year (e.g the run up to Christmas). If you have any queries about the timings for commissions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

About

Sterling Silver Jewellery Handmade on the North Coast of Northern Ireland

Hi,

And welcome to Atlantic Rose, handmade sterling silver jewellery from the north coast of Northern Ireland.

This coastline, known to many as the Causeway Coast, is a stretch of some of the most beautiful, rugged scenery in the world. A place steeped in myths and legend with an exciting, colourful history. It’s where I grew up and where I’m lucky enough to be raising my own family.

As an archaeologist for over 10 years I loved exploring this history and became fascinated by the techniques used by ancient goldsmiths and metalworkers. At first I started making chainmaille bracelets and Viking Knitting with sterling silver purely for myself. But it wasn’t long before I had a queue of friends and family asking me to make pieces for them, and Atlantic Rose was born.

Today my design process is much more organic. I may start with a semi precious stone or a bead that catches my eye and the piece of jewellery grows around it. Whichever materials I’m using, I want to make jewellery that makes a statement. You can use it for a bit of sparkle on the school run, a pop at the centre of a party outfit or the perfect surprise gift for someone special.

And the name Atlantic Rose? Well it reflects two of the biggest influences in my life: the north coast of Northern Ireland by the Atlantic Ocean and my Nan, Rosena Shaw, known to family and friends as Rose. (That’s my Nan's handwriting you see in the Atlantic Rose logo.)
Have a look around my shop to see my most recent pieces. And do please get in touch if you’d like me to work on a bespoke design – I regularly make pieces for weddings and gifts and I love a challenge.

Welcome to my little corner of Etsy. Sit back, grab a cup of tea/coffee and take a wee dander (Northern Irish for 'wander') around my shop, Atlantic Rose. If you are feeling curious and would like to learn more about me, where I am from, how and why I started Atlantic Rose, please visit my About page:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/AtlanticRose/about/

All my work has been assayed and hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office, except for earrings and any silver items under 7.78g (including bracelets, pendant necklaces, earrings and stacking rings). Earrings all bear the Sterling Silver Hallmark .925, which can be found on the ear wire, if it is a dangle earring, or the pin if it is a stud. Pendant necklaces and bracelets under 7.78g will have a .925 sterling silver tag.

If you have any queries about any of my pieces, processes, or would like to commission a piece, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope you enjoy my shop. Thank you for visiting.

Ok and now for the serious bit.....

Additional policies and FAQs
Repairs:
I am happy to repair any jewellery you may have bought from me if it has become damaged or broken, as long as the damage is a result of normal wear and tear. Small repairs will be done free of charge (except for the cost of postage). If a substantial amount of work is required I will provide a quote. If you need your piece repaired, please contact me through convo or via my email.

Tarnishing:
Your jewellery will be cleaned and polished before it is shipped to ensure that it reaches you in the best condition possible. Each jewellery box contains an anti-tarnish square to help slow the tarnishing process down. Please be aware that occasionally tarnishing will occur in transit. This may be due to a number of reasons, including humidity and temperature. Tarnish can be removed easily using a silver polishing cloth, or a polish specially formulated for jewellery. Please do not use domestic silver polishes or abrasive substances like toothpaste as these will damage the surface of the silver and ruin your jewellery.

3. Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It
The General Data Protection Regulations (May 2018) (EU) (known as GDPR 2018 throughout the rest of this Policy) requires that I explain the legal bases I rely on to collect, use, and share your personal information. This may include a buyer’s affirmative consent to receive marketing messages, compliance with legal obligations, and a seller’s use of the personal information in their legitimate interests (improving their services, for example). Throughout this privacy policy, I will explain where and why I rely on these different legal bases.

I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
- as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
- when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for my mailing list through www.atlanticrose.co.uk;

I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

- Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
- Service providers. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies (e.g. Royal Mail, UPS etc). I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
- Compliance with laws. I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

5. Data Retention
The GDPR (2018) requires me to disclose the period of time during which I will store personal information.
I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for 6 years. After this time I will delete your data from my records.

6. Transference of personal information outside of Europe and how the transfer will be handled GDPR (2018) requires me to disclose if I transfer personal information outside of the EU and the legal bases I rely on to do so, such as consent and contractual necessity.
The only circumstance in which I would transfer personal information out of the European Union would be for delivery purposes through trustworthy services such as the Royal Mail or UPS or similar postal services. Any other information will only be held by Etsy itself and for that purpose you should refer to their Privacy Policy.

7. Your Rights
If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. These rights include:
- Access. You have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below. If you make a request, I will provide you with a personal data report in a commonly used and machine readable format, at no cost to you.
- Change, restrict, delete. You also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Except under exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
- Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
- Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

If you would me to create a bespoke piece, or customise one of my other designs, please contact me via Convo to discuss your needs. All customised and bespoke pieces require payment in full before work
commences. Work on the piece will only begin once the payment has cleared.

Care instructions

To ensure that your jewellery is well maintained, please look after it carefully. Chainmaille, especially lightweight weaves, needs to be treated with care. All the jump rings used in my work are fully closed and so should not catch on anything. However, if you do catch or snag your bracelet on something, try to ‘unhook’ yourself carefully. Pulling snagged chains will cause the jump rings to open and break the chain.

NEVER force a piece of jewellery over your hand or head without opening the bolt clasp. Doing so will open the jump rings causing the bracelet or necklace to break.

It is also not a good idea to wear your jewellery when doing any heavy work such as: cleaning; gardening; moving furniture etc; swimming or bathing.

Cleaning your Jewellery

To keep your Atlantic Rose jewellery as sparkly as the day you received it, gently wash it in warm soapy water, using a very soft toothbrush if you feel it needs an extra clean. In most cases a soft polishing cloth does the job nicely. Never scrub your jewellery (especially semiprecious stones or pearls) and do not be tempted to use an abrasive cleaner as it will scratch and damage the surface of your jewellery. Jewellery containing pearls should not be soaked for prolonged lengths of time and should never ever be scrubbed with a toothbrush, no matter how soft the brush or how gentle the scrubbing.

Storage

Silver kept out in the air, will tarnish over time. This is due to the silver oxidising. To slow this process down, keep your silver in:
-an anti-tarnish bag (these are pouches that have been treated with an anti tarnish substance and are available from many jewellery suppliers online);
- a sealed ziplock bag;
- in your Atlantic Rose gift box ( all Atlantic Rose jewellery boxes contain a small anti tarnish square in the lid which will help slow the tarnishing process down).

It is also a good idea to keep your jewellery out of direct sunlight if it contains semiprecious stones or glass beads, as these are not necessarily colour fast and will eventually fade.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All Atlantic Rose Jewellery comes in a black leatherette gift box (which a white slip cover) bearing the Atlantic Rose logo. Earrings, depending on their size, will either come in a small black leatherette gift box, or in a black velveteen pouch (the packaging will be stated in the item description).

If you would like your item gift wrapped, I offer free gift wrapping. Please state if you would like this service in the 'Note to Seller' before you finalise your purchase. If you would like something a little more special, you can upgrade to luxury gift wrap, with high quality gift paper, satin ribbon and blank gift card.
