Plant dyed Bamboo silk ribbon, handcrafted in Somerset

Bruton, England | 530 Sales

Announcement    Welcome to my shop!
I'm a flower farmer based in Somerset growing traditional cottage garden flowers and foliage. I have a small part of my plot now dedicated to growing dye plants for my ribbons.
Currently I am creating hand dyed ribbons in 100% Organic bamboo silk fabrics.
I will be selling off the silkworm silk that I still have in stock as one off bundles.
I will also be selling occasional ceramic/ glass pieces, cake plates, vases, scented candles as they become available.
The ribbons are all hand dyed by me in my cottage predominantly from plant dyes foraged from my plot.
My colour range is limited to what the plants give me. You may notice the lack of blues, greens and purples! Purples are very seasonal as they are usually created from berries. Blues are really only created from Woad and Indigo and the process is not suitable for small batch production. So, my colour range is limited. I gather the plant and I make your dye for your ribbon. I don't use artificial colours or natural dye pastes and I don't use any chemicals to fix the dye to the silk except for a little rusty water!
Each ribbon is unique and although I endeavour to recreate the same recipes for each dye, there may be a slight variation in colour from batch to batch. There may be the occasional fleck or marbling along the length of the ribbon ....such is the nature of a unique hand dyed product!
The price quoted is per metre. Click on quantity to add how many metres you require. The maximum continuous length is 4 m. Please contact me if you require a longer continuous length and I will see what I can do!
From time to time I will be introducing one off bundles of complimentary colours. These bundles will consist of several metres of silk and may include a cotton styling cloth. These would be of particular interest to stylists, photographers and florists creating that fantastic photo shoot.
I am always available to create bespoke colours for you if you send me a photo of your desired colour. Please contact me. Thank you so much for looking at my shop. Alison

Types of silk.
As of March 2020 I will no longer be offering silkworm silk. This is a personal view not to continue selling silkworm silk and to convert to Bamboo only.
The cruelty aspect of Bombyx silk has always been difficult for me and I wanted to align my silks with my flower business. I grow my flowers without pesticides with the environment at the forefront. I grow my flowers using organic principles and Organic Bamboo was the only way forward for me.
Types of silk

Bamboo silk Medium weight 100% organic bamboo fibre. Soft with frayed edges. Slight sheen to the fabric.
Bamboo silk stripe. 100% organic bamboo. Alternate stripe with a slight shine/ Matt stripe.

Cotton muslin
Cotton voile.
