Silver Clay: A very special material

Silver Clay is, once fired, pure silver .999 but as its name suggests, it doesn't start out that way. Silver particles are suspended in water and an organic compound similar to clay. In this state, the Silver Clay can be imprinted on, shaped and manipulated. Once fired, the organic material has burnt away leaving pure silver.
I first came across Silver Clay about 5 years ago, where I did a short course in Silver Clay techniques and jewellery making. I absolutely loved it! But, as I was busy with my prop making, it got left on the shelf until recently, when I re-discovered my love for it.
I am the workshop manager and head creative for a small baby casting company, Image Casting, and it was through looking at other products we could give our customers, that I found out about Fingerprint Jewellery: a method of taking ones fingerprint and imprinting it onto silver Clay. An idea was born!
As well as offering Fingerprint jewellery through Image Casting, I also design and make Fine Silver jewellery for my Etsy shop. I love the whole process, from designing to making to selling.
Thank you for stopping by.
