The bears and I have been out collecting fresh lavender for our Sleepy Bear range, who have a sweet smelling pouch in their tummies.

Hand-made small animals knitted from beautiful British wools

My little teddies are designed and hand-knitted by me using our gorgeous British sheep’s wools, whose natural browns, creams and greys look lovely as teddy fur. These interesting wools mainly come from small farmers and often from endangered breeds so I am glad to be supporting the conservation of these flocks. However, if requested, I am happy to knit in any other colour you may want – you only have to ask.

I started knitting bears in 2012, after joining a challenge to 'Knit the Olympics'. It fired up my imagination and I found it great fun photographing the bears posed as runners, swimmers, gymnasts, strongmen and so on. I still like to pose my bears out in nature or near iconic buildings I happen to be visiting - I usually have a bear on the needles wherever I am!

Each bear is stuffed with gorgeous, soft, pure Shetland wool and stands about 7-8 inches (15-18cm) tall. All features are hand-embroidered to make them as secure as possible.

Since knitting my first bears, I have added other animals to the collection. Initially these were pandas, rabbits and cats but recent commissions have requested dogs, elephants, rats and dragons and these now feature in my Etsy shop too. If you would like a different animal, I would love to have a go at knitting it for you.
