Buttons and Bicycles

Buttons and Bicycles. Bike-Part Art: Upcycled. Original. Handmade.

I am a seriously keen cyclist!

When I retired from road-racing in 2012, I turned my hand to art and craft work to fill the hours I had previously spent in the saddle.

Still "mad-keen" on cycling, I started to experiment with making things out of old bike parts. The "sprocket clock" was an early invention, which my friends loved. There was such a demand that I made more and more, and started to create other bike-themed gifts and goodies for my cycling buddies to enjoy.

"Buttons and Bicycles" grew from here.

I have an upcycling ethos: reclaiming old, discarded materials and using them to create something new, beautiful and functional - bringing them back to life.

I also work in more traditional artforms and "behind the lens". My brightly-coloured, "mixed-media" work often incorporates vibrant shiny buttons; my photography often takes on a two-wheeled theme...

Having had countless compliments, I hope "Buttons and Bicycles" will allow others to enjoy my work too.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalised orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
Please note that "Buttons and Bicycles" is the work of an amateur crafter, trying her hand at selling some of her products online for the enjoyment of others. Patience and understanding would be much appreciated.

Whilst every attempt is made to craft excellent quality products, it is inevitable that handmade items, which are made individually (and are therefore unique) may differ slightly from the picture shown and may not be as durable as products which have been factory built and undergone extensive testing.

If you do need to return a product:
In the first instance, please contact me via the contact page. It may be that your problem can be resolved without needing to return the item.

You will have 28 days to return or exchange your item. You will need to package it carefully. Items which have been custom made, or specially commissioned cannot be returned. (If in doubt, please check before ordering).
Please do not destroy or throw away any product (even if it's faulty) before making contact - if you are hoping to receive a refund.
A donation from the sale of each item will be made to Crisis: a UK charity, which supports the homeless, and campaigns against homelessness.
I aim to dispatch "in stock" items within 3-5 working days... often faster than this. If your item is required by a certain date, please indicate this when you place your order. Every effort will be made to get your order to you by the date required.

Custom items - made to order - will obviously take longer to process - as I will need to make them first!

Delivery charges for each item are listed on each product page. They have been calculated based on standard Royal Mail pricing (dependent on the size and weight of the item ordered). If postage turns out to cost significantly less than the estimated price, the difference will be refunded. All items are sent by Royal Mail standard delivery, with proof of postage, and are not tracked. (Please contact me if you would like to use a different form of delivery).

In keeping with the general ethos of Buttons and Bicycles - and to keep postage costs as low as possible, parcels may be packaged using recycled materials.

Virtually all my items are unique and "one of a kind" - making use of materials available. If you are looking for something in particular, a piece of jewellery in a particular colour or style, or you would like me to replicate (as near as possible) something I have previously made, then please get in touch. I will do my best to source the necessary materials.

Whilst every effort has been made to clean the reclaimed bicycle parts thoroughly, it is inevitable that traces of dirt and grease may remain. I cannot be held responsible for staining or damage that this may cause.

Every effort has been made to achieve a smooth ("perfect") finish on spray painted items. You may find the paint wears off small items (such as key rings) over time. Again, I cannot be held responsible for any staining this may cause.

Some of the bicycle parts (especially those used to make my clocks) have sharp edges. Please take care when handling them. Most of my products contain small parts and are not suitable for children under the age of three.
