Sizing details

The bust is measured flat pit to pit then doubled for the bust measurement. If there are any darts which make the shape more rounded and mean that the above method will not give an accurate measurement, we measure the back flat and add this when we measure the bust rounded.

We measure the waist flat at the smallest point and double.

We measure the hips flat, 9" below the waist and then double.

Shoulders are measured between the shoulder seams flat.

Bodice length to the appropriate waist seam is given from the shoulder or collar as appropriate.

Skirt length is from the waist seam to the hem.

Sleeve length is from the shoulder seam to cuff.

Sleeve width is normally the width of the cuff, measured flat.

Care instructions

We wash or dry clean all our garments so they are ready to wear as soon as they arrive with you.

Generally a lot of vintage can be hand washed. We do not put much of our vintage in the washing machine, the agitation of the machine is just too rough.

We've generally stated if something is washed or dry cleaned and we recommend that use the same method of cleaning after you've worn an item. 40s crepe for example really should only be dry cleaned.

We are not responsible if your cleaning method causes damage to the garment.

Please get in touch if you have any cleaning questions about our garments.

What else do you have available?

Lots! We are a bricks and mortar physical shop here in Edinburgh and have many more items available. We are happy to list these for sale here too, there are just not enough hours in the day! Please let us know what you’re looking for and we will see if we can help.

Many vintage dresses were either home or seamstress made, therefore they often do not have the typical brand nor card labels we are used to in modern clothing. If a label is present, it is always photographed and shown within the 10 photos shown. If there is no label photograph, this is because there is no label present on the garment. I hope you join me in my passion that a dress which someone has sewn with love, has lasted so that someone else can enjoy it!

Sizing details

Inside leg is measured from the seam join of the crotch to the hem.

Sizing details

Roughly we assign UK women’s sizing as follows. However please note that sizing varies so much shop to shop it is almost meaningless! Please go by the measurements listed for each item and compare against an item that you feel fits you well.

Also depending on how a garment is made and designed, the measurements will vary from those below (eg a loose fit waist in the 60s). We base our guide on the smallest measurement of the garment.

Returns are only accepted under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 in the UK.
This does not cover returns outside of the EU which are not accepted.

We must be contacted about a return within 14 days of you receiving the item. It must be in the original saleable condition with all original tags still attached, including dry cleaning tags.
You are responsible for the cost of return postage to us, as per the Regulations.

A form is available if you need it for the return, but is not required.

Please note that returns which could have been avoided by asking questions upfront, will restrict your ability to purchase from us in the future, due to the high costs of returns on our small business. If in doubt, ask and we will help!
