The colour of this case is vibrant and stunning. Great vase, beautiful size and shape. The detail and texture of the sandblasted glass is beautiful and extremely well crafted.

I ordered these earrings along with the cobalt charm bead as a present for my sister. She loved the set as it was handmade and something a wee bit different. Thank you Cat

A present for my sister which she loved. She is using the bead on a bracelet but could be put on a chain instead. The bead arrived promptly and well packaged. Thank you

About

CatMacKGlass

My work has a large emphasis on colour, and colour application. I create contemporary modern handblown glass, and glass jewellery, using clean lines, pattern and texture.
Glass can be seen as a fragile material, and people can be wary of touching it because of this. I want my work to make a connection with the viewer and encourage the desire to feel the surfaces I have created.
The materials I tend to use are soda lime glass, sterling silver and brass. I like combining these different materials in ways that compliments the material best, while being fresh, quirky and fun.

Hi. My name is Catriona MacKenzie ,and I am the glassblower behind CatMacKGlass.

I obtained my passion for glass while attending a foundation year at Edinburgh College of Art. I really enjoyed working with the glass when it was hot, and manipulating the fliud material.
While studying my degree I was chosen on merit to attend the distinguished glass department at Alfred University, NY state, for 5 onths. This was a fantastic experience for me, and I carry the knowledge I learnt over there, with me to this day.
I graduated from ECA in 2005 and obtained a 2:1 BA (Hons) Design and Applied Arts degree, specialising in glass blowing and molten casting.

Edinburgh was a fantastic place to hone my Design skills and strong concepts, but I really wanted to work on the techniques. I was very aware that it was the Craftmaker in me that was drawn to glass as a material. On a recommendaion, I attended The International Glass Centre, in the West Midlands, where I earned 5 distinctions in blown and carved glass, and an NC in Lampworked Glass. My skill level improved hugely from the specialist teaching I received there.

As well as these qualifications I also had the honour of attending masterclasses ran by Simon Moore, Janusz Pozniak and Tobias Mohl at the Northlands Glass School, Scotland. This was a fantastic experience to work with world-renowned glassmakers.

After graduation I became a glass Studio Manager in a picturesque town in the Cotswolds. I held this role for almost four years, and this position included the training of all studio staff, the making and selling of various glass ranges, and everyday running of a busy Craft business.
In 2011 I was chosen to exhibit a fresh new range called "Limn" at the Saatchi Gallery in London, as part of the prestigeous COLLECT exhibiton. This was a fantastic experience and such an honour to see my work in such a beautiful gallery space.

My next move is coming to Bristol, where I occasionally teach glassblowing and lampworking skills, assist in glass production, and create my own ranges of Glasswork.

In 2013 I was delighted to be awarded a Silver award by Craft&Design Magazine, and was shortlisted as a finalist in 2014.

2015 is going to be an exciting year for me as I am now a fully fledged Craft Business and I have just been awarded a place on the Craft Council UK's Mentorship programme, Hothouse5, which starts in February of this year.
