About

African Raw Materials with a unique European Twist.

Chally Ayekoo is a small business run by a multi cultural family from the UK & Ghana.

We use beads made from recycled glass, handmade by small companies or solo business owners based in Accra and Krobo. We also buy from the Koforidia bead market.

We design most of our own batik fabrics and have them hand dyed for us by a solo business owner based in Accra. We also use fabrics purchased from the shops and markets of Accra.

The photography we use in our digital products was all taken in Africa. Over the years we have lived in or visited a number of African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa. Our rich catalogue of photography comes from all of these countries.

Who's Chale? Well take a minute to stand in the general chaos of downtown Accra and listen and you'll hear the name "Chale" one hundred times a minute. In England we'd probably say "mate", but the literal translation depends entirely on where your from. So you are Chale, I am Chale, we are all Chale.

Chale Design's making beautiful products, inspired by Africa, for everyone.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

I'd love to design something just for you! Or tweak an existing product to make it perfect for you. Please feel free to convo me to discuss what your looking for.

Sizing details

All of our items include sizes in the descriptions. We also try to indicate where this will sit on a "standard" body (what is one of those anyway?!) and where possible include a photograph of a real person wearing the piece. A good way to see whether the item will fit you, is to measure one of your favourite pieces of jewellery and see how the length of our item compares to this. I will almost always be able to change the length to suit you, so please don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like something changing. The only exceptions to this are some of the items with larger beads where the size of the bead may mean that to change the length, I must also change the design.

Care instructions

Our items are made using recycled glass beads. They will shatter if dropped from a height or onto a hard surface. Also, many of our pieces contain tiny belly beads and therefore care should be taken around younger children.

If the beads get dirty, they can be washed using soapy water.

If the beads look dull, a quick rub with some oil (any type, I personally use coconut) will bring back their sparkle.

Many of the beads contain inclusions. No amount of cleaning will remove these and instead they should be considered part of the charm of buying beads made by hand in rural parts of Africa - think of the inclusions as your own little bit of Ghana and love them as indicators of the uniqueness of your piece!

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of our products are packed beautifully, enabling you to give them directly as gifts.
