It's all for a good cause

I have been making teddy bears for Canterbury Umbrella Centre for four years now. I joined the drop-in service just after moving to a new area, and immediately found them welcoming and encouraging.

Not always having experienced this, I naturally wanted to support them in any way possible. I am always crafting, and people would often ask me about it. The previous craft teacher had retired, so I was supported in a new role.

I make toys 3 months a year as part of a friendly contest on Ravelry, and selling them at the centre provides nearly all our funding. No one pays to participate in the group, as I found that this discourages those whom can only do it for a short period and those on fixed incomes.

During my current break due to ill health, I have been making a few extra bears. As my health improves, I will be able to offer a greater range and also take better photos.

Frequently asked questions
Can I wash my new item?

YES. Unless the listing specifically advises against it, your items should be machine washable.
I tested one that said hand wash, because I was intrigued, and it came out in the same condition. This was in a mixed load that included 2 pairs of jeans, and I expected him to be felted to nothing and sliced up by rivets.
