I love tourmaline, it’s my favourite stone, it comes in lots of different shades of greens & pinks as well as gradient combinations of both.
Just finished this piece, an Egyptian cross adjustable bracelet in sterling silver with personalised engraving.
[don’t judge those unfinished edges, you don’t always spot these things until you take a close up photo! I neatened these up afterwards]

I must be doing something right...

I was born in Wales and moved to England when I was 6, I had a really strong welsh accent when I arrived in England, no one seemed to sound like that in Oxford so I changed it pretty quickly so I could fit in. As a child I loved rollerblading, art and football - I think I might revisit these interests one day!

I went to Solent University in Southampton to study Product Design with Marketing. I loved studying product design and university gave me so much confidence. I stayed there for a while doing a marketing & design internship for an Indian restaurant called The Old Deli Eatery, taking advantage of the free food, including their signature chocolate curry dish! I then went on to do a marketing intern at Northwood Lettings agency. Where they gave me the freedom to design whatever I wanted. After moving back to Oxfordshire I got my first Product Design role at Thinkable Studio working along side Motorola Solutions.

Whilst at Thinkable I got asked to design in 3D a jewellery collection for Saxons of Oxford and come up with the branding to go with it, having never really worn jewellery this sparked a sudden interest. After they were designed we went to visit the jewellery workshop to see the pieces being manufactured. I was fascinated. We watched the Rolls Royce angels being cast, this was very exciting. I knew then that’s what I wanted to do, I just didn’t know how.

My friend suggested I go along to the local silversmith club that her work colleague was a member of. I signed up to the course and learnt the basics of cutting, filing, soldering and polishing. My friends kept asking me to make things for them and by this point I really was hooked and realised I could actually make anything. One of the members put together a set of tools for me so I could start making at home. If I got stuck on anything, I’d get help from the silver group members or watch tutorials on YouTube (I still do this now). I stopped making things for free and started to charge, people still wanted me to make things! I realised if all my friends wanted custom made pieces other people would to. Luckily they did and after a year I was earning a full time salary that was more than the job I left!

Shortly after that I came back from a trip to Cyprus and decided I really wanted to make myself some ear cuffs and try selling them. I played about with the design as I wanted them to stay on as I remember trying them when I was younger but they would always fall off. The ear cuffs are still my best sellers and I’ve now sold thousands of them!

My latest project has been setting up the Oxford Etsy Team (made up of all the Oxfordshire based Etsy sellers) which now has over 500 members. I organised two Etsy pop up shops (the most recent one has been running for an entire year!) and in the summer we had a monthly market in the grounds of a castle. We had a successful Etsy Made Local Christmas market in one of the Oxford University buildings which I plan to run every year. I want to use the team to help other small businesses grow so that they can also earn a living from their hobby.

Over the past 5 years I have gone from making plain silver wedding bands to making platinum & diamond bespoke engagement rings. I’m still amazed that people trust me to make such expensive pieces when I’ve had no formal jewellery training but the orders keep coming in so I must be doing something right!
