About

Cutting Paper by Accident and for Love

I started my shop quite accidentally, as did my papercutting.

The papercutting began to fulfill two needs, an updated Fine Art Portfolio for my PGCE application and also to tackle a weakness, my knife skills. I dropped out of my A level Art, my tutor was less than encouraging of my lackings, using an expletive to describe my technical skills, in particular, how I worked a blade.

Fast forward 20 years (ouch) to 2013 and I start papercutting. I had been following artists on Pinterest and had given a workshop for Year 8 pupils, well I got bitten by the bug. Cutting is so relaxing, I have a busy life juggling two little ones, cutting just takes me away from everything. I posted a picture on my Facebook page and a friend's wife commissioned me to design a cut for her sister, Buddha's Garden, everything just snowballed from there.

I love papercutting, the crisp contrast of the silhouette against what it has been set upon, the sound of the blade on paper and the clean path it cuts. I feel very fortunate to have found a hobby that I enjoy and get such personal reward from, let alone being appreciated by my followers to the point where people hand over their hard earned money for my work. I am now selling internationally, with my artwork in the US, Ireland and the UK.

The work I create is in two parts, an account of the seasons and my local wildlife, the hedgerow lined lanes, paths and fields, the woodlands of Ramsbottom and Rossendale; and the Gifts, Commemorative pieces to celebrate and remember important events, births, weddings etc.

I take commissions for new designs so if there is something particular that you want, that isn’t in my catalogue, I will be more than happy to discuss your requirements.

Thank you for taking time to visit my shop, I hope there is something of interest to you. Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterst for work in progress, classes, free templates, competitions and pretty things that I like.

It's a one man show. I cut, I post, I promote and do all the admin/accounts bit. New at the business side so hoping I keep all my figures in order! I've just turned 40 and live in a stone cottage just outside of Ramsbottom with my young family.

Care instructions

Coloured paper is photosensitive, it will fade in sunlight. Paper will also ripple in dampid conditions. For safe care to improve longevity you are best to display your cut in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Framed items include a glass pane, should this break it may damage your papercut, please hang with care.

Wholesale availability

I am available for wholesale supply in manageable numbers please contact me for details.

How do you make your papercuts?

Most of my artwork is cut by hand with a craft knife. Most of my cake toppers, cards and some of my budget designs are cut with a small cutting machine, like a printer but it cuts rather than draws. All items are hand finished with the aid of a keen eye and a steady hand with my knife and usually a slug of superglue! All items are hand packaged and all coloured/glitter infills are cut and applied by hand. Everyone of my items is handmade in my studio (front room) in my terraced cottage in Lancashire.
