Announcement   Welcome to CmglassdesignsStudio where you will find a range of handmade and colourful contemporary fused glass homewares and jewellery.

All my glass work is distinctively colourful and inspired by geometric shapes, repeated patterns, lines and colour. The items you will find in my shop are bold and cheerful, ready to bring a bit of fun and joy to any home.

I only use premier quality Bullseye glass, not just because it is especially manufactured for fusing and is therefore extremely stable, but also because it offers the widest range of colours and shades, which is what my work is all about.
Every piece is designed and made by myself in my garden studio based in south Manchester, UK.

Thanks for visiting! :-)

About

Colour and pattern galore!

I am a fused glass artist based in Manchester -UK- and I have a fascination for glass and the design possibilities this medium offers.

I love colour and pattern, a passion which started over 20 years ago on a trip to India and Guatemala and which has stayed with me ever since.
Even in these countries where hardship is commonplace, people are surrounded with bright colours, which seems to lift their spirits and instil happiness in those around them. I do believe in the power of colour on the well-being and a colourful house makes a happy house, just like a happy outfit is uplifting and energising.

I started exploring glass and colour through mosaics 15 years ago and came across glass fusing about 6 years ago as I was experimenting with mixed media mosaics and had the idea of using glass inserts into my work. I bought a cheap, tiny and basic kiln with no temperature controller -it makes me chuckle now that I have a good understanding of how crucial temperature and speed of heating glass are in kiln formed glass! I was hooked right from the moment I first opened the kiln door and found a shiny multi-coloured nugget.

I love experimenting with contrasting types of glass, such as transparent and opalescent. However, whatever I try, I am instinctively drawn to colours and pattern and this is what my work is all about!

Every item I make is one of a kind and a work of love, from planning and drawing the original design on paper to the finished product.
I find my inspiration in the world around me and I am particularly attracted to geometric shapes, repeated patterns, lines and colour.

I only use Bullseye glass, not only because it is manufactured for fusing and is therefore extremely stable, but also because it offers the widest range of colours and shades, which is what my work is all about!

The story of a glass piece goes like this..... I combine layers of glass to create unique designs which are then fired in my kiln up to 805C and then cooled down slowly to stabilise the glass. The piece of fused glass is then ground and fire polished to give it the matte or shiny appearance desired and finally slumped in a mould to make dishes, candle holders, etc.

Et voilà!
