Contemporary stained glass art - traditionally handmade

The technique of making stained glass has changed little since the 12th century. Coloured pieces of glass are held within lead channels or ‘came’ which are then soldered together. Each of my pieces starts with a spark of an idea that gets refined and modified to produce a life size working drawing called a ‘cartoon’, the glass is then cut by hand from this pattern and etched, engraved or painted if required.

Glass continually responds to changes in light levels allowing the colours to come alive to illuminate the space and reflect the true beauty of the design. Modern glass production methods mean that there is an infinite variety of colour and texture to choose from, whilst the natural organic quality of glass ensures each piece of art is unique.

I enjoy the feeling that I am connecting with skilled artisans of a bygone era to create modern stained glass art pieces that sit comfortably within contemporary environments.

Care instructions

This stained glass is traditionally made. In common with all stained glass, it uses material that contains lead. The risk is low and these decorative pieces are safe but, as a precaution, always wash hands after handling and supervise children and pets.
