Here at Craft with Cartwright we specialise in Modern Cross stitch and Embroidery designs.
Hi I'm Ruth, the owner and Creative driving force behind Craft with Cartwright.
I found my love of cross stitch when on maternity leave with my first son eight years ago. He was a tiny baby and I found that I had time on my hands between feeds and the itch to craft something was strong. I wanted something I could pick up and put down easily and that didn't require lots of specialist equipment. I already had lots of thread and needles from studying Embroidered Textile design at University. So after looking through the magazines in my local newsagents, cross stitch was for me.
This was enough for me initially as I could pick out designs to sew for my son and make the odd card, but soon I got tired with the magazine designs and wanted something different, Modern and playful.
I found a web site that offered free pattern making software and started playing around with ideas. Initially is was a steep learning curve, but over time I mastered the software and started adding free patterns to my blog. I got some great feedback and thought perhaps I could sell some too?
I wasn't really familiar with ETSY, so I read some blogs and tutorials and in 2013 I took the plunge and opened my shop
Over the last few years my shop has grown and so have my followers, I am a work at home mum with my youngest son I love it.
I have been fortunate to have my designs featured in Cross Stitch Crazy magazine.
