A little more about Teresa Crickmar and Creative Therapy Space

One of the main reasons for choosing our current family home in Cambridgeshire was that it came with an amazing garage and room attached. We got to work making these my jewellery workshop and studio in no time. It is now set up as a fully functioning place to teach jewellery-making with three benches and loads of equipment. I love being in the space with music playing, incense burning and light streaming in. Betsy, our cockerpoo often joins me and together we spend many happy hours creating handmade treasure.

I am a spiritual person, a Reiki master and love crystals, not only for their beauty but for their healing properties. I use them daily and incorporate pieces into my work. When I start to make I create the space in the same way as if I was about give a healing session. I make sure it’s clear, cleanse with Palo Santo or sage and set intentions for the day, this means I put Reiki energy into my work as I make.

The natural world inspires me, I am in awe of our planet and want to care for it the best that I can. This means reusing and recycling metals, buying materials from ethical sources and using recyclable packaging made from recycled materials. My work is made using eco-friendly hand tools and techniques, with no large industrial machinery, or mass-scale production and transportation I keep my work small and precious minimizing harm to the environment.

John Ruskin and the arts and craft philosophy to making influences my own methods, I am always concerned with beauty, the practicality of the piece and its purpose. The ‘findings’ (the workings; ear hooks etc.) are as important as the piece. I make my own ear hooks and they change to suit the design.

I mostly work in precious metals and stones, but I am fond of incorporating found objects. My more sculptural work includes feathers, plastic, resin, sea glass and even leaves and twigs. I exhibit in Cambridge Open Studios and made a series of crowns for Goddesses. You can see the work here:

Creative Therapy Space was created as a way to bring women together; healers and artists to offer creative workshops to increase wellbeing and connection. The pandemic has all but stopped the progress on healing and creative workshops but it has allowed me the time and space to concentrate on making jewellery.
