All the Colours of the Rainbow
Daisy Belle Designs is owned and run by Designer/Maker KJ Bell and specialises in handmade home decor and gifts with a Scottish twist. I make wooden home accessories such as Waste Paper Bins and Tissue Box Covers and tweed & fabric home accessories and gifts.
Daisy Belle Designs is named after my dog, Jemma Daisy Bell and that is because I do most of my thinking about colours, designs and products whilst out walking her in the beautiful hills and beaches around Edinburgh. I make products which I love and that I am proud to display in my own home and to give as gifts to my family and friends. I use the best quality paper and fabrics, choosing colours and designs which I love and I hope you will too.
Wooden Decoupage Home Decor
My interest in decoupage began whilst living brIefly in Poland where the art is very popular. Decoupage is the technique of decorating an object by glueing paper cut outs onto it in combination with paint. Commonly an object like a small box or an item of furniture is covered by cutouts from gift wrap, napkins or from purpose-manufactured papers. Each layer is sealed with varnishes. I started creating wooden decoupage gifts for my friends and family a number of years ago after studying the art and attending courses.
After finding a fantastic supplier for the wooden items, which is also a registered charity and sheltered workshop for people with severe mental health problems, I was able to start making my unique products for a wider audience. I now sell my products at local fairs and events as well as online in my Etsy shop.
Tweed Fabric Gifts
Tweed is the most amazing fabric to work with, soft, rich, beautiful and hugely versatile. I use tweed made by Abraham Moon & Sons which was founded in 1837. It is now the last remaining vertical woollen mills in Great Britain, meaning that all processes take place on one site. Moon tweeds are used for furnishings and apparel but I think they look best as lavender Scottie dogs. I am also now also using Scottish Harris and Bute tweeds, more items coming soon.
Unique Home Decor
Many of the items I create are unique. That is because I source papers in small quantities so they are often not available again. I mix my own paint colours taking inspiration from colours in the papers. The cut of the fabric will never be exactly the same across two of the same items. I take a great deal of care to produce high quality products.
Thank you for taking time to read about Daisy Belle Designs.
