Limited edition screenprinted children's book illustration
I'm an author-illustrator from London, now living in Cambridge. I studied English and Creative Writing at the University of Warwick and Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, completing my MA in 2013.
Most prints for sale here are from the same very small editions as those used in my books. They are made using the drawing fluid and screen-filler method of screenprinting, meaning a separate stencil is hand-painted onto the silkscreen for each colour. I also used some photo-emulsion stencils for the prints for my first book, The Girl with the Parrot on her Head.
I have written and illustrated four books published by Walker in the UK, Candlewick in the US and various other publishers in translation (see www.daisyhirst.com/books). The Girl with the Parrot on Her Head was an Ezra Jack Keats Book Award Honor Book and shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize. Hilda and the Runaway Baby won the Lara Jones Award in the Macmillan Prize. Alphonse, That Is Not OK to Do! recently featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories. My latest book, I Do Not Like Books Anymore! was shortlisted for the AOI World Illustration Awards. Walker will publish my fifth book, Alphonse, there's Mud on the Ceiling! in summer 2019.
I also make one-off prints, tote-bags, comics, greetings cards and other things, run workshops for children and adults and sell work at comics and illustration fairs (usually with my friends at BrollyLolly collective).
