The Infernal Imaginings of Alice Durose: Original Art, Prints, Greeting Cards.

Danse Macabre offers alternative Art and Design which challenges conformity, celebrates the uniqueness of human nature & revels in the bizarre and grotesque.

Built on a foundation of historical knowledge and a fascination with the fantastical and bizarre, Danse Macabre is my brainchild, passion and dream.

In the beginning ...

I completed a BA Hons in Textile Design in the summer of 2012, gaining a First Class honors degree after three years exhaustive work, and a lifetime of dedication and artistic dreams aiming for one goal; to do a job I love for a living.

Ready for the career I had long dreamed of (and dedicated my life to) I relentlessly searched for a company willing to give a passionate young print designer a chance.
Six months down the line, and after more rejection than I care to remember, it became apparent that my unusual ideals and love of traditional artistic style were going against me. To employers I wasn't commercial enough, or marketable to the masses.

So I reached a crossroads and had to make a choice; 'Remove my personality from my designs, and become commercial, or continue in what I believe in.'
The decision was made for me by my lifelong role model and hero, Zandra Rhodes, who inspirationally told me; 'Don't give up.'. And I didn't.

And so the solution to my problems was to start my own business, where no idea was compromised, no message diluted and the strange and sinister are celebrated unashamedly. The mundane cast out by the macabre, and the dark side of human nature overshadowing the so familiar light. And so Danse Macabre was born ...
