Devi is Hindi for goddess, the divine feminine.
The concept for Devi Clothing grew from my very first trip to India. I was awe inspired by the women there, their strength, power and femininity. Their daring to dress from head to foot in such bright and vibrant colours. As I sat watching them go about their daily tasks, cutting grass, ploughing fields, chopping wood and fetching water. Something opened inside of me and with it the gates of my previously narrowed thinking, that strength was a masculine quality so if I wanted to appear strong better stick to jeans big boots and maybe a sexy top, Id felt that dresses were for prissy girlies and I wasn't one of them.
A new relationship with the expression of the power of the feminine developed with in me, and I felt a shift to embrace and celebrate my femininity with all its grace and strength.
Id always loved being creative and was designing and making my own clothes in my early teens. So I brought myself a sewing machine and started to play, the ideas sprung from the nature surrounding me. The patternation of butterfly wings, veins in leaves and layering in bark started to weave themselves into details on the garments. After some time I started to work with a few small family run sewing workshops and from there it developed from a hobby into a business. I design clothes that I love to wear everyday. I feel good in them and feel confident that you will too. I feel they have a natural earthy feminine elegance that caresses our curves and can be dressed up or down for any occasion and nurture our expression of our inner goddess and divine feminine nature.
