About

Didi Lou Crafts

Didi Lou Crafts is a small business based in Berkshire, UK, that sells homemade craft items both online and at local craft fairs. Items for sale include painted or decoupage jewellery boxes, other painted, decorated or decoupage wooden and papermache shapes, painted planters or pots, homemade cards, hand painted glass, hand painted silk, felt decorations and bags with a seasonal variation.

The name came around because I was the first grandchild, so my then 14 year old uncle named me Diddy after Ken Dodd's Diddy Men, but I prefer the alternative spelling Didi. The Lou is a shortened version of my middle name and Crafts is what I make.

I started crafting many years ago, making Christmas gifts for the aunties and making cards for family and friends. I've knitted jumpers for friends and cross stitched many a card or gift. We had a homemade medieval themed wedding, with the invites hand embossed, the table decorations hand made and I even made the flower arrangements myself and my mother made our wedding outfits.

My husband was medically retired at the end of 2014, and we decided I needed to be home too to help care for him, but I needed something else to do that wouldn't interfere with that. Didi Lou Crafts was born out of that need. All things change over time and my husband died suddenly and unexpectedly in 2016, so now I am continuing the business with more time to focus on it and me.

I love variety, so make a range of items rather than specialise in one craft. I work in batches, so might be silk painting one week, then glass painting the next, and also cross stitching or painting when watching TV. (Crafting is in the genes, but I haven't quite got to my mother's standard, she can knit as a passenger in a car, at night, in the dark.)

In buying one of my items, you are buying my time and patience to make the item, as well as my enthusiasm for crafting. I put in the effort to make something unique and most items are a one of a kind. I hope you enjoy the end products as much as I enjoy making them.

    Owner, Creator

I have been crafting for many years, making gifts for friends and family, which have always been well received. Now I have decided to try expanding my hobby into a small business.

  • Mo

    Creator

Mo is my mother. She likes china painting, knitting, sewing and teaches belly dancing (with 2 metal knees). She knits teddy bears and hats and sews bags for charities in Australia, but when she visits me she likes to make a few items for me to sell.

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging

All items are packaged with appropriate care and attention to try to ensure they reach you in the condition expected.
If you require gift wrapping, please contact me before placing your order.

Care instructions

Most items (cards are the exception) are dispatched with an accompanying product information sheet. Please ensure you have read these before using your items, taking particular note of any safety warnings and care and cleaning instructions.

UK Only Items

Due to customs rules in some countries, wooden items are only shipped within the UK. For insurance reasons, glass and other breakable items such as terracotta are also limited to UK shipping only.

Name and address

It is the responsibility of the customer to check that the spelling of their name and the correct address details are given when ordering as once the order is placed refunds can not be given.

Custom and personalised orders

Custom and personalised orders are possible if I can still get the required supplies. Please contact me before placing your order.

Postage Methods

Most items are shipped via Royal Mail First Class within the UK, and International Standard Airmail everywhere else. Higher valued items (over £20GBP) are shipped via Royal Mail Signed For within the UK and via Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed everywhere else.
Most items are NOT tracked (unless already stated above). Should you require expedited shipping or tracking on an order, contact me via Etsy before placing your order to organise a quote for an alternative shipping method.

Problems with your order

I work hard to make sure that you are 100% happy with your purchase. Remember these are all handmade items so any imperfections are usually due to the nature of their creation and are part of the character of each piece. Please contact me via Etsy within 14 days of receiving your purchase if you are in any way dissatisfied with your order and I will do my best to resolve the problem. Most items are one of a kind, so whilst I am happy to try to replace a item damaged in transit it may take time to remake it and at times it might not be possible. Note I will need photographic proof of damage so I can claim against my insurance.

International Returns

International returns must be marked clearly as a "return". I will not accept the item if it is returned without being marked as such, as I will not take responsibility for the customs and handling charges when the item reaches the UK.

Environmental Statement

I post items in new cardboard boxes or paper/card envelopes, which are reusable and recyclable. I do not use plastic post bags and am phasing out paper envelopes lined with bubble wrap. The inner packaging, which may include additional cardboard, bubble wrap and air pockets, is recycled. Cards are packed in cellophane, which is biodegradable, rather than plastic. I still use a plastic based packing tape, but will look for a more environmentally friendly option when I use up the stock I have. Please dispose of your packaging responsibly.
