About

“Just because we were not raised in, or have moved away from the country of our
heritage, does not mean we are lost. It doesn’t mean we have forgotten who we are and where we are from. We still belong… We just belong to more than one…
This is o.k. We are all influenced by the wonder, beauty and ways of many cultures and we are richer and prouder for it.”

Hi and welcome to Dinky Mix!

I’m Chi, proud parent of four and lover of all things design and illustration related.
That quote above? Well, that is something I wrote a while back and it is central to what Dinky Mix is all about.
I am British born of Nigerian descent, and remember the confusion and sometimes the rejection felt from being raised in a country different to that of my heritage.
It wasn't great, and I certainly didn't want that for my kids.

I decided to create illustrations that represented them culturally and racially, and they loved it.
But that wasn't enough for me.
I want my kids to be proud to share their beautiful heritage. Both the Nigerian and the British, with other kids, and welcome all who want to enjoy it with them.
I want them to understand that with all the different cultures and races that they encounter there is a common thread. Humanity. This is where we all belong.

Dinky Mix is full of products for ALL the kids that make up what I call the Dinky Nation!
It is a children’s design brand that aims to foster pride in cultural heritage, positive self-identity and belonging,
expressed through design that is confident, uplifting and playful.
Through Dinky Mix I hope to promote the oneness of humanity and our common ground.
I want our kids to celebrate the differences as well as the similarities
of the vast array of people, cultures and races that reside on this amazing planet.

There is no circumstance or situation where a child should feel like they’re overlooked or ignored, and I wish that all children felt like they matter.
Unfortunately because of poverty, abuse, war, discrimination and so many other factors, we know that this isn’t the case.
I will give at least 10% of Dinky Mix profits to childrens' charities, it’s a drop in the ocean but it’s a start. Maybe it’ll go towards giving one child a hope and a future.

I'd love to get to know you better.
