Love this notebook. Very well made!
Where fabric meets stationery...
Six years ago, after a serious car accident followed quickly by redundancy from my job in marketing, I decided to use this enforced break from a fairly hectic life and rediscover my passion for sewing.
I started making presents for friends and their children. Their friends asked where they had bought the gifts and how they could get them, and so I opened an online shop and signed up for some craft fairs.
I like to make things are that are practical, and bring a little beauty into everyday life.
The inspiration for my removable fabric notebook covers came when I realised I had a pile of notebooks which I never used because I didn’t want to ‘spoil’ them! When one of my notebooks is used up, it can be removed and a new one inserted into the cover.
I enjoy the challenge of thinking of a new product and working out how to make it, and am now working on a new line using fabric designed and screenprinted by me.
It is immensely satisfying to know that something I’ve designed and made myself is giving pleasure to another. Having the freedom to be creative and to sell what I have made is a great privilege, and one which has made my life richer.
I particularly enjoy the reaction my products get from people at craft fairs. My old corporate job was very serious, and the delight I see from people now is a joy.
I chose the name Dottie Doodle in memory of my granny, who inspired my love of sewing and all things vintage, and in recognition of the creative process, which requires a lot of doodling!
23 July - Mid Devon Show
I love the Mid Devon Show. It's big enough to have masses of entertainment and things to do, but small enough that you can get close to the animals and see what is going on. I'll be in the main Craft Tent.
3 November - Powderham Castle Michaelmas Fair
My first time at this fair, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and spending some time in this breath taking venue.
5 - 6 November - Killerton Christmas Fair
One of the oldest craft fairs in Devon, and always a great mix of high quality crafts. I've been coming to this fair for seven years - in fact, it was the first fair I took part in!
