About

Barrister turned Designer | Handbags Clothes Accessories | African Fashion British Design | All items handmade by me

I'm a barrister turned designer. Whilst on maternity leave with my second child, I took several evening classes in clothes making, tailoring, African fashion and pattern cutting and .... I was hooked. To use a well coined phrase, 'it was love at first stitch'. To start with, I made a simple totebag (just for fun) and the feedback / comments from people were great! I have sewn every day since learning and I now make handbags, clothes and accessories. It has been a
wonderful journey and the journey continues. In my previous life as a lawyer, I didn't think that I had a creative bone in my body. It turns out that I do. What's more, I have discovered recently that my maternal grandmother was a seamstress and owned a sewing school in Nigeria. My paternal grandmother, as it so happens, sold African fabric in Northern Nigeria and made a lot of money from doing so!! I still practice law a little but it has been completely affirming to learn that after having been a Barrister for nearly 20 years, and having fallen into sewing as something to do while on maternity leave, that it's actually in my blood. Amazing.
