Handmade jewellery

London, England

Announcement    A collection of affordable and easy to wear jewellery pieces made from used and broken hickory hardwood drumsticks from the Drum Works project.

From each usable section of drum stick the discs of wood are measured, marked, cut, sanded, drilled, painted and finished by hand. The natural wood surfaces are sanded to a fine smooth finish and then waxed to deepen the colour and protect the hickory wood.

25% of every sale goes directly to Drum Works, a music project based in east London that encourages social cohesion and improves educational and aspirational outcomes for its participants. Their vision is to build a community where every individual is empowered to make positive choices about their future, to aim high and to take responsibility for their role in supporting others around them. Drum Works started in 2007 and flourished as part of the Creative Learning programme at the Barbican Centre and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, before launching as an independent organisation in 2016. They are a Barbican Artistic Associate and continue to work closely with both the Barbican and the Guildhall School. Drum Works now involves around 500 people every week through six East London schools, two senior bands and an adult ensemble. Buying a piece of Drum Works jewellery will help support the continuation of the important work that they do.

All the jewellery is hand made in London by professional jewellery artist Elizabeth Bone who is also a member of Drum Works Barbican adult band.
