Street sculpture

I have been making versions of this shape of elephant for more than twenty years, starting with carved aerated concrete, then rammed earth, and now cast concrete sculptures on the streets in opportune places. They will soon be made from granulated cork and lime as concrete does not have an environmentally friendly footprint.
I believe that we need to re-evaluate how we see the other beings that we share this planet with, and change the relationship from one of exploitation of these beings as resources to one of co-existence, and recognising their place in the world and their need for habitats in which to thrive. For this to happen we will need to fundamentally change, and the first step in that change is to being to see our fellow creatures as sentient beings rather than providers of product. This is the purpose of my work.
If you decide to buy one of my pieces of work you will also be contributing 10% of the sale price to Akshinga, a group which empowers women to protect their environment in Zimbabwe. Read about them here: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/dec/17/poaching-wildlife-africa-conservation-women-barbee-zimbabwe-elephant-rhino

Elephantman is a street artist with a mission. He puts elephant sculptures in opportune places such as vacant pillars and plinths wherever he finds them. They are placed to give a family dynamic so as to get across the idea of elephants as people.
