About

A creative life is all I've ever wanted

Since I was a child, drawing has been a constant companion. Being picked out of the class to draw the school freeze made me feel special, being able to make cards for me friends gave me enormous pleasure and doing the other girls' art homework enabled me to make a bit of money and meant I avoided any kind of unwanted attention from the school bullies.

For many of my adult years, drawing and painting as a hobby. Holidays were spent doing printing and book-binding courses or travelling around European cities soaking up all the fabulous art galleries there in. Sure I made cards for people, gave people sketches for gifts and did people's wedding invites but I was shy about putting my work out there. The penny finally dropped when I was at a friend's house where she had made a gallery wall of all the little sketches and cards I'd made over the years. When I saw it I thought, "actually this looks really good" and so a seed was sewn.

After many false starts, I began my business proper around four years ago when me and my husband moved out of London to the lovely town of Wivenhoe. This year I made the leap and left a full-time job to concentrate on my art more fully, it's scary but worth it. I'm still learning and loving every minute of it.

I'm inspired by so many things; my morning walks along Wivenhoe's quayside, the seasons, architecture across the ages and even mid-century textile and ceramic design (although you may not know that by looking at my work). Depicting nature is a joy for me; I love investigating a bird's plumage, conveying the intensity of a beautiful flower, discovering the essential line of a creature or plant. I want to share this joy with my collections and hopefully my work will inspire that sense of wonder in my customers.
