It's nice to meet you...

For me, the journey to becoming an artist began right from the get-go, right from the moment I could hold a crayon and scrawl across the page. Of course, I like to think I have progressed greatly since the days of scrawling and scribbling but something I have not lost is my unwavering joy and love of art. I live on the North Norfolk coastline, it's a fantastical hub for unusual and rare wildlife as well as a site of outstanding natural beauty and conservation. It is not difficult to draw inspiration from your surroundings when there is so much right on my doorstep. My wildlife work ranges from Barn Owls and Little Owls, to Kingfishers, Avocets, Hares and the very rare but stunning Swallowtail Butterfly.
In my personal work, I focus on British Wildlife, for now, specifically the wildlife found in Norfolk such as the elusive Bittern. I use pastel pencils to bring my subjects to life and take great joy in describing minute details and movement. I work from home in a quiet back garden studio with my two dogs, the best and only company for a working artist I do believe!
My greatest works are always produced in the quiet, secretive hours of the morning, the sun just awakening, birdsong finding it's way down into the garden and a quiet hush blanketing the sleeping village I call home. I always try to connect with my surroundings by taking walks during the day to recharge my creative batteries and refresh my mind.
As well as my wildlife work, I also take pet portrait commissions which I adore working on. Having two dogs of my own, I know what it is to share that bond of loyalty and trust but also to have a companion who is completely reliable. When undertaking a commission, I always take the time to get to know both you and your furry friend, be they a dog, cat, horse... or anything else with fur or feather! To find out more about this side of my work, take a peek at my website: www.emilyrosefineart.co.uk.
Should you be local and want to see my work in person or find out more, please get in touch and arrange a studio visit, I'll be more than happy to host you and have the kettle hot.
