Announcement    I'm teaching again! In 2020, I will be running leatherwork workshops, in Bristol, UK. If you are interested in learning leatherwork, this afternoon course will teach all the skills required to make leather goods, using traditional tools and techniques. Working on a small project of your choice (a card wallet, phone case, simple knife sheath etc), you will:

learn how to transfer a pattern to your leather
learn how to use different tools to cut your pieces
learn about different dyes, and how to apply them
learn about wet moulding techniques
practice edge bevelling and burnishing techniques to give your project a quality finish
learn how to do traditional saddle stitch using a stitching pony
learn about applying surface finishes

Learning this set of essential leatherwork skills will enable you to make a whole range of items in leather, from pouches, handbags and satchels, to wallets and purses, sheaths and cases, belts and bookmarks. They will also mean you can mend and alter other leather items you already own!

The class will also cover how to choose good quality leather, different leather grades and thicknesses, and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask other questions. All tools and materials will be provided, and you of course get to take away your own beautiful handiwork.
