A Lasting Impression

The need to make design & make things is huge part of my life & has been from a very early age. Over the years I have worked with a range of materials - wood, metal, stone, glass, plaster, concrete, polymer, often combining two of more together in a single piece.

My latest work creating the plaster cast tiles was inspired after I ran a plaster casting workshop a few years ago with a group of local school children. I have since refined my technique & developed the range of tiles that you can see in my shop.

When I started out I was amazed at the detail that the process picked up & I never fail to be excited when peeling off the clay to reveal my latest casting.

I always like to experiment & decided to try adding colour. The effect I have achieved is similar to that of printed etchings, a finish I have always loved. It gives a vintage, aged effect to the tile, whilst highlighting the detail of the casting. The colours I use are carefully chosen to enhance the designs & fit in with the subject matter.

Framing the tiles gives them a different feel, more like a work of art. I use a variety of frames, some hand made locally, others bought off the shelf & adapted.

I started designing the greetings cards a few years ago, using images of some of the things I have made - the wooden boats in the 'Coastal Range' are combined with illustrations I have done on the computer.
The 'Cast Collection' are photos of the tiles I have cast.
The 'Flower Collection' cards were drawn on the computer using photos I had take of flowers

Selling on Etsy is a great platform to reach a truly global marketplace with people who appreciate beautiful handcrafted work.
