About

'I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left' - Seasick Steve.

I've always enjoyed working with wood, starting Forget Me Knot was a good way for me to explore my creativity while producing low impact (environmentally), beautiful and long lasting items for others. It all started after returning from travelling with no money and no furniture, I decided it must be possible to make from scratch, or revamp unwanted items, in order to furnish our home.

All the wood I use and furniture I upcycle is destined to end up in landfill, be burnt or, at the very best, turned to wood pulp. I believe there is a better way. Well built, sturdy furniture can be repainted, re-purposed and re-loved. Pallet wood and reclaimed timber which is perfectly healthy should not be burnt after just a few uses. Although much of this wood is made from farmed, sustainable forestry, trees still take a number of years to reach maturity and it's wasteful not to make the absolute most of the resource.

I am passionate about living as sustainably as I can, I love wildlife and believe in protecting our fragile ecosystems. I put these values into my work as much as possible. For example: as explained above when it comes to sourcing materials, by using Good Energy, a 100% sustainable energy supplier, by giving monthly donations to The Woodland Trust and Soil Association, by banking with ethical groups, especially those that do not invest in fossil fuels, by limiting the need to use chemicals on items and using Ecosia (www.ecosia.org) search engine - every search helps pay to plant a tree.

Thank you for looking at Forget Me Knot UK's Etsy shop. Everything is handmade, made to measure (where requested), unique and, more often than not, bespoke.

Forget Me Knot UK's mission is to reduce waste through reusing, upcycling and revamping old or unwanted items. We aim to promote thriftiness, inspire creativity and encourage a move away from conventional materialism by proving that second hand, handmade and recycled can be beautiful, unique and practical.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
Refunds and Exchanges: If for any reason you are not entirely happy with your purchase, please contact us and we will endeavour to resolve any issues, exchanges or refunds.

This must be done within 14 days of the despatch date and the item must be in the same condition as it was sent i.e. no damage, alterations etcetera - sorry.
Payment
Etsy requires payment at point of order. Personalised items that cannot be re-sold must be paid for prior to production and cannot be refunded if cancelled after production has commenced. Payment is always required before delivery or on collection in person.
Shipping
Items that are already created and ready to ship will be shipped out within 2-5 working days.

Items that are made to order will be created and shipped out within 21 working days and you will be notified once your hand crafted item is on its way to you. If, for any (jolly good) reason, there is a delay in shipping the item, we will contact you immediately.

Most items require a signature on delivery, larger items will be tracked. Unfortunately, larger items e.g. furniture, are not always covered by shipping insurance. However, items are built to be sturdy and will be packaged in such a way as to reduce any potential damage in transit.

If you miss the standard 3 delivery attempts we will try to contact you to rectify the issue. However, if there is no response, the item will be returned to us at a cost. If we are contacted after this to try and ship your item again we will have to charge you again for delivery and for the return fee incurred (we really don't want this to happen). If there is no contact we will refund the price of the item but not the delivery charges; as a very small business these are charges we just can't afford to incur.

Christmas delivery guarantees are the responsibility of the courier, therefore any complaints relating to late receipt of an item should be taken up with the delivery operator.

For deliveries outside of the UK: Items can be shipped within the EU and some other European countries by prior arrangement. We cannot guarantee that items will not incur further customs charges by the receiving country and any such charges will have to be paid for by the recipient. We are also unable to compensate for any delays, loss or damage of parcels once the item has left ForgetMeKnot - sorry. Please also consider the environmental impact of the shipping before you purchase and research local tradespeople who may be able to make the item instead. If this is not possible, please consider making a donation to a woodland or carbon offsetting charity to help reduce carbon emissions.
Additional policies and FAQs
Many of the 'made to order' items may look slightly different from the picture used in the sale description. This is due to the different colouration, texture and size of the wood used. The wood is all reclaimed and/or recycled so it is not always possible to find pieces exactly the same as used for previous projects. This is part of the charm and ensures each item is unique.
