Art History.

My love of 'stuff' started in early childhood, much to the chagrin (and later, grudging admiration) of my parents. I can remember having a little set of shelves in my bedroom, which was crammed with ornaments, erasers, plastic jewels and trinkets, mainly pink, sparkly and/or animal related! Thankfully, my tastes have evolved a lot since then, but the love of stuff continues abound.

My parents were both art teachers, my mum going on to become an artist in her own right shortly after I was born. They had the ability to look at something placed in front of them, and render on a piece of paper exactly how they saw, or imagined it, in their mind's eye. Whenever I tried, I always felt a sense of frustration that I couldn't work this magic; I was either too self-critical or too slap-dash to take much joy from what I had produced, or the process.

However, as time went on I realised I did have a bit of an eye, after all: not for painting or drawing, but for finding, selecting and arranging the wares, odd objects and furniture that I had collected along the way. I was complimented on the things I'd found and how I put them together. Even now, when rummaging through an auction, market or car boot sale, I unwittingly come away with items of a complimentary colour palette, theme or size.

Therefore, I can't claim to be an artist, and there's not much conscious planning involved in what I do. However, I hope that I can follow on the family tradition of finding wonder in the old, the odd and the unconventional, simply sharing this with others through my Etsy shop, rather than a paint brush. I have named my shop Galabeer and the Dog after one of my mum's early works, a painting which features on my Etsy shop ID, and which proudly hangs in my living room, bringing me much joy whenever I see it.

I hope that you too will enjoy my (slightly waffly!) story and the odd array of vintage wares that populate my Etsy shop. Thanks for stopping by.
