I sculpt animals that look naturally poised, capturing their character with a tilt of the head, a quizzical look in the eye, a fluidity of movement and energy, almost ready to spring rather than a frozen snapshot of motion. A grounding in biology and understanding of anatomy inform my work with a detailed lifelike quality.

My work is cast in the UK from metals obtained from over 95% recycled sources. My home and workshop are powered using energy from 100% renewable sources and I subscribe to a scheme to offset the carbon emissions caused by my business, making it carbon neutral.

If you'd like to join my mailing list you'll get news about my work and events (in the UK). I sometimes give mailing list discounts and occasionally crowdfund producing new sculpture.

Currently there’s a 10% mailing list discount on the open edition bronze sculpture. At the final stage of checkout look for ‘Apply shop coupon code’ directly under the PayPal, VISA and Mastercard logos. Click on it and type in the code ‘SIGNMEUP’.

The link http://eepurl.com/w1BDH will take you to the sign up form for the mailing list if you're just browsing today.

There’s more information on my website www.geckoman.co.uk

I’m a tiny business, it’s just me, with a little help from my lovely wife, Nancy. The work is made with love and I hope it spreads joy wherever it goes.

About

Geek to Geckoman! How did that happen?

I was a geek teenager, and, in the extensive menagerie I had throughout my parents house, I kept geckos... so I know these animals really well. I went on to study biology at university and increased my knowledge of the anatomy of these, and other animals. My fascination never left me, though the interest in formal study certainly did. It was inevitable that I'd return to painting and sculpting the animals I love, and I've been really lucky to be able to make a career out of it.

In 1996 my Dad took early retirement and bought a wheel and kiln, which gradually I kind of took over – Thanks Dad! My pots then were frankly not up to much, but the geckos went brilliantly the first time I ever put them out on a stall. A little kick from the government... well, you can only aspire to be a musician for so long... and I decided to go for it and start in business.

Because of my work I became known as Geckoman on the craft fair circuit, first cool nickname I’d ever had! I still make the stoneware geckos that gave me the name, but things have progressed a bit over the years. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of the work as I get making it.

Cheers, John

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I don't accept returns, exchanges or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
I package things really well, and as a result get very, very few problems with damage through the post.

If the box is damaged please take a photograph BEFORE you open it.

If something completely disappears in the post I need it in writing that it didn't arrive before I'm able to make a refund or send a replacement.

Damaged or lost items will be refunded or replaced.

If you've changed your mind about an order please bare in mind that I'm a very small business. I will refund on return of the item undamaged but you will be liable for all shipping costs.
Payment
Payment through Etsy is by PayPal OR credit/debit card

To pay you have to click the button ‘Check out with PayPal’. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Paypal account, it will give you the option to log in to PayPal OR pay with a debit or credit card. Enter your card details. If you don’t want to create a PayPal account click ‘No thanks’ then submit your order.

I'll send out your order out when it's been paid for. Once you've paid for something there's no cancellation. I'm a tiny business, so I don't want to get into returns if you change your mind. I put up good, clear photos and try to describe things thoroughly. I'll give a refund if something's damaged in transit, so do get in touch about that.
Shipping
Postage in the UK is first class, unless otherwise sated. Things I've sent to the USA seem to take a week or so, not sure about the rest of the world - most of Europe seems pretty good.

If you want to buy several items get in touch, I’ll usually be able to reduce the postage cost.
