The Geeky Revolution Starts Here! Soy Candles UK, Lip Balm, Perfume, Soap, Tarts, Melts

Firstly can I just say THANK YOU to all of my wonderful, fantastic, amazing, geeky customers! Thank you for supporting independent, handmade business. We are incredibly grateful for your continued custom.

I began making candles around Christmas time of 2011 when, after a personal tragedy early in the year the thought of facing Christmas was not a very happy one. So after finding a book about candle-making in a local thrift shop, I decided to dip my toe into the world of wax, wick and matches to help distract me.

I started by using paraffin wax (not yet aware of the environmental dangers) and proceeded to make many, many candles of all shapes and sizes to give as gifts to family and friends. I enjoyed it so much that I had every intention of starting an online shop selling my creations but unfortunately life had other plans for me and it took two more years before I got around to making candles again. But the wait has turned out to be worth it as I get to share something I love with the rest of the world! I started using soy wax, which is made from soybeans, as an environmentally sustainable alternative to paraffin wax and began creating a shop here on Etsy. Although there are concerns about the growing of soy and its chain of production - it remains the best alternative to paraffin wax at the moment.

I pour my heart and soul into everything I make because life should be as beautiful as possible for everyone and if something I create can make one person's day a little brighter - well that is all that I could possibly ask for.

Disadvantages of using paraffin wax in candles:
- It gives off carcinogenic toxins in the form of black soot.
- It comes from petroleum which is a non-renewable resource i.e. dinosaur bones.
- Burning petroleum creates air pollution and contributes to global warming.

Advantages of Eco-Soy Wax:
- It’s comes from soybeans - a vegetable! Which is a renewable resource.
- They burn slower and cooler than paraffin - creating longer burning candles.
- It is biodegradable - meaning it can decompose naturally.
- And because of this it is so much easier to remove from stained materials and to clean up.
- It also means that we you are finished with your candle - you can easily clean out the tin/jar and use it to your heart's content.

CANDLE SAFETY:
- Make sure to trim wick to no ore than 1/4 of an inch on first use!
- Please allow candle to pool to its diameter when using the first time to avoid tunneling.
- Place on a FIRE RESISTANT surface away from children, animals, vibrations or drafts.

Frequently asked questions
When will I get my order?

All items are made to order. I work full-time so, weekends are for candles! Check the processing time when you order - but I mostly post on Monday mornings, and only once a week (at the moment anyway).

All orders are sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Royal Mail estimates 2nd class parcels are delivered within 3 working days of posting. Obviously, this being the Royal Mail, things can take a little bit longer!

International orders are shipped 'International Standard' by The Royal Mail. The Royal Mail estimates shipping times of 7-8 WORKING DAYS for international orders.

What are all your scents? What do they smell like?

Smell is subjective. You can purchase samples of scents in the shop, which is always the best choice if you are unsure of certain scents.

If you would like to return an item for whatever reason, it must be in original condition (able to be re-sold). Return postage is paid for by the customer.

Please bear in mind, the subjectivity of smell, when leaving feedback. I do my utmost to provide eco-friendly, unique items of good quality, which are beautifully packaged and arrive safely. If you are unsure of scents - please purchase a sample before making a larger order.

How much is INTERNATIONAL delivery?

Okey dokey. International delivery prices can get confusing but I've tried to simplify them!

Costs have gone up quite a bit recently, particularly for North America and Australia/NZ. For specific delivery prices add items to your basket.

However, if you would like to order quite a few items, and you think the shipping cost is too high, please ask me if I can do better. The way etsy shipping works - makes it difficult to offer better deals on shipping, if items of different weights are ordered. Or if lots of very light items are ordered e.g. lip balms. So just send me a message and I will offer the best price available!

What's with all the 'Geeky'?

I think we all have a bit of geek in us, and we have a right to indulge and spoil it!

The dictionary defines a Geek as an 'An unfashionable or socially inept person.' But this ain't necessarily so! Okay so maybe I'm not the most fashionable person in the world. And, come to think of it, I'm more than a tad inept in social situations.

But Geeky can also mean, being extremely excited or enthusiastic about a subject, typically one of specialist or minority interest. I'm sure we can all find something we 'geek out' about. Whether it's the new season of a favourite tv show, the latest installment of a film, or a book we have to read every single year.

GeekyCandlesCo allows me to share with you, some of the things that I am a Geek for!

Can I get a custom order?

Absolutely. Depending on the number of items etc. I am usually able to complete custom orders in the same time-frame as non-custom items. However, if its a larger order e.g. wedding, baptism, birthday party favours etc. processing times are longer.

I can offer personalised labels, as I do all of my labelling in-house.

It is possible for you to send a photograph to me to put on items. This has worked out well for wedding favours in the past.

Do I need to wait before lighting?

Because items are made to order, and we pride ourselves on short dispatch times (for candle-making) you might like to wait about one week, before lighting your item - for maximum scent throw. Technically the longer you wait, the stronger it will be. However 1 week is more than sufficient! If you want to light right away - go ahead! We often do! :)

I can't find one of my old favourites, in your shop?!!

I simplified the shop recently, so you might find some scented items have disappeared! But, rest assured, there are ways and means around this! You could ask for a custom order, or select one of the package deals and then just let me know which scents you would like.

However, you may find that some of the new scents are able to satisfy your needs! If you liked Basilisk Venom or Floo Powder for instance - then Sherbet Lemons is the scent for you. If you liked Castiel or Darcy, then try Rhysand. Why not try some of our new ones too? Droobles (bubblegum), Skele-Gro (pear drops), Grindylow (cola cubes) or Bertie Botts (Jellybeans) to name but a few! :)

Are you compliant with EU regulations?

Absolutely yes!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure that when you order candles, tarts, lip balms, perfume etc. you are ordering from people/shops that are EU compliant!! Obviously, I'd prefer if you just order from us! But your safety is the most important thing. It is illegal for ANY candle seller selling in the EU, to not adopt new labelling/sourcing requirements. If in doubt - don't buy.

Why do you have more sales than reviews?

Most people don't leave reviews unfortunately! It's lovely when they do, but it's not compulsory. Also, we were shut for 3 years -(whilst I was away) - so we didn't have a shop front!

How will my order arrive?

Your order will arrive in a cardboard box, with bubble wrap around the candle and packaging such as brown paper to secure it. The candle will be in a pretty bag. You will also receive a 'You're a Wizard' card - with your name on it (unless you specify otherwise in the 'notes to seller' box at checkout) and most likely a sweet/candy.
