Growing up, I was the child who effectively booby-trapped her room by attaching bits of string and mysterious card board constructions to various bits of furniture. Dad said I should be an engineer - but at the time I figured that would include way too much maths and I wasn't having any of that thank you very much!

At school I enjoyed both art and the sciences. I saw my sister ahead of me at college struggling to fit her own artistic ideas to what her course wanted, and decided I'd rather take the science route at the time. This took me all the way to university in Aberystwyth, where I studied Marine and Freshwater Biology.

Half way through my final year I had a bit of an epiphany; I realised that as much as I enjoy science, an awful lot of it is time spent pulling things apart, whereas what I really tend to enjoy is putting things together.

So! Several years later, after finishing my degree anyway (because I felt not doing so would have been a bit daft at that point) working in a craft gallery, a false start at my own business, a house move and 18 months in a totally different job followed by another couple of house moves... here I am.

For a while I resurrected the skills learnt alongside Dad at a silver jewellery course many years gone by, and added some self taught leather work to create The Silver Hide.

In late 2015 though my silver and leather crafts were on hiatus for various reasons, and I picked up a pencil for the first time in years. After a year of brushing dust off my old sketching skills and picking up new painting ones, I decided to move on and re-brand as Giddy Minnow Designs to sell my art.

The craft room still has piles of leather and felting bits and beading boxes and all sorts, so you may occasionally see some other odds and ends in the shop!

I think I'm still trying to find 'My Style', but I hope people will like what I make along the way, and in the meantime I shall just keep swimming!
