How did I get here

I love the music of Talking Heads so the obvious title has to be 'How did I get here' inspired by the song 'Once in a Lifetime'.

A long long time ago I trained as a nurse and then moved to become a scientist and project manager a job I loved, but in 2007 my (now) husband and I moved to Devon from the home counties. I was teaching in Adult Education but by accident really found myself on a course to learn Lampworking, the art of melting glass rods using a propane and oxygen mix bench mounted torch to make beads (I have also learned to make sculptural items, marbles and blow glass on the torch). Since then I have been able to give up teaching and become a full time artist (something that would have made my old art teacher faint, art was the only O'level I got an unclassified result for (the worst)). I have always loved glass, infact glass is rather of a family obsession, one of my sisters was once a buyer of glass items for a local department store. Our favorite family poem is 'Overheard on a Saltmash' by Harold Munro, it's all about green glass beads.

I supply a number of seasonal galleries in the SW and have had an Etsy shop since 2011. I used to mostly sell glass beads and jewellery, but about 18 months ago I started selling light pulls and blind pulls too all made from glass. I love making them as they are large and not too fiddly. I still sell the beads and jewellery and can take comissions of course.

I love living where we do, we are very lucky to be in walking distance of this wild and beautiful coast and not too far from Dartmoor (photo of me was taken on Dartmoor last summer, it was a bit windy!), Bodmin and Exmoor, we try, when we can, to walk alot. We are also keen gardeners and have been growing our own vegetables for the last 20 years.

Thank you for looking at my work. If you would like any more info on me and some more photos of my work, please have a look at my website www.glassbeadsbylotti.co.uk
