Y cuando se van, la casa se siente extraña de una manera difícil de explicar a quienes no la han experimentado.
Fui a mi tienda porque no sabía qué más hacer.
Llevo veinte años trabajando con máquinas, metal y madera. Mis manos saben cómo crear cosas. Así que tomé la mejor foto que tenía de él y la tallé con mi máquina CNC. La lijé hasta que me dolieron los dedos. La terminé a mano y la colgué en la pared; y por primera vez desde que lo perdimos, sentí que de alguna manera seguía aquí. Que seguía formando parte del hogar que tanto amaba.
Soy Dominic. Tengo 47 años, soy padre de cinco hijos, abuelo de tres nietos (y espero el cuarto), y he amado a los animales toda mi vida. Vivo en el sureste de Wisconsin y trabajo en mi propio taller, donde cada pieza está hecha por mí: tallada, lijada y acabada a mano.
No fundé Grain & Memory Studio para crear un negocio. Lo hice porque crear esa primera pieza sanó algo en mí, y pensé que no era la única que lo necesitaba.

I've been working with machines and metal and wood for 20 years. My hands know how to make things. So I took the best photo I had of him, and I carved it on my cnc. I sanded it until my fingers hurt. I finished it by hand and hung it on the wall — and for the first time since we lost him, I felt like he was still here somehow. Still part of the home he loved.

I didn't start Grain & Memory Studio to build a business. I started it because making that first piece healed something in me, and I figured I wasn't the only one who needed that.
