lovely fabric flowers

Hello!  I am Kyoko, a Japanese mother of two kids, living in London since 2010.  Thank you very much for visiting my Hanamizuki Etsy shop! I hope you like and enjoy my hand-made accessories using a Japanese traditional craft technique called “Tsumami-zaiku.”

“Tsumami-zaiku” is one of the craft techniques originated in Japan to make fabric flowers. "Tsumami" means “pinching and folding” and "zaiku" means “craft” in Japanese.  "Tsumami-zaiku" is often known as "kanzashi” flower accessories as well. “Kanzashi" is a traditional Japanese hair accessory that you wear with Kimono. So, “Tsumami-zaiku” technique was developed to create beautiful kanzashi, which dates back to 200 years ago.  We don’t wear kimono everyday anymore, but we still wear it with kanzashi at special occasions such as at wedding or on New Year’s Day.

I started my work about 3 years ago. I first taught “tsumami-zaiku” myself using a home learning kit imported from Japan.  After having completed the starter kit, I continued to study, built my own skills, and have found my unique skills/designs to create “tsumamizaiku” accessories.

I always loved spending my time making craft works since I was a child, which definitely is my mum’s influence.  I also love flower arrangement, so you can see that I make ornaments/accessories using artificial flowers.

I don’t only make Japanese traditional accessories but also aim to make accessories that you can wear daily.  Sometimes, I make accessories for special occasions such as wedding.

I am always in a search for beautiful fabrics and materials in the UK and Japan.  You will see my accessories made of Japanese fabrics or fabrics that I sourced in the UK.

I am open to your ideas and would be happy to make custom-made accessories for you, so please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss your ideas. ☺
