About

I love to weave

CRAFT
I first learnt to weave 35 years ago and have been working to improve my skills ever since. I love to see the pattern emerge as the weaving progresses. I use traditional methods and patterns in the same way that hand weavers have worked for centuries.

MY LOOMS
I have two looms, a beautiful Danish Lervad floor loom bought in 1981, and more recently I also bought a New Zealand Ashford table loom. The floor loom is my main workhorse but the table loom is best for the scarves because it is more gentle on the fine yarn I use.

YARNS
I use beautifully soft cotton for the blankets and very fine pure merino wool for the scarves. The merino is very soft and silky. The yarns come from Italy and are produced under environmentally friendly conditions.

TIME & EFFORT
It takes about a week to make one item and longer for large pieces so weaving is not for people who need instant gratification. There is a lot of planning and preparation of the loom before I can start weaving and then there is time to be spent on the finishing after the weaving is complete.

CONTACT ME
Please do not hesitate to contact me, I would love to hear from you.

Frequently asked questions
How should I wash my hand woven wool purchase?

Hand woven wool items should be hand washed in cool water (tepid). You can use a washing machine for large items but select a low temperature and gentle action cycle. Do not use a fast spin dry because this produces creases that cannot be removed by pressing. Never tumble dry wool. Roll it in a towel to remove most of the water then lay it flat to dry. Iron with a cool iron while the wool is still damp. Can also be dry cleaned.

How should I wash my hand woven cotton purchase?

Hand woven cotton items can be machine washed but use the wool cycle (warm not hot water) and a slow spin. A fast spin produces creases that are very difficult to remove. Can be tumbled dry using the low heat option BUT I recommend allowing it to dry naturally. Preferably lay flat to dry and again iron while still damp. Always wash dark colors separately.

Care instructions

Extra care needs to be taken with hand woven products to prevent snags (pulling of threads). I work with high quality wool or soft cotton but I cannot guarantee that the finished product will not snag if it is caught on jewellery, cats claws or other sharp objects. Please treat your hand woven product gently.

Import taxes and duties

These are NOT included in the price. Depending on which country you live in you may have to pay taxes or duty - these are an additional cost which you might want to investigate before deciding to buy. Examples of these countries include Canada, Australia, Switzerland and other non-EU European countries.

When are parcels deemed to be lost

Overseas packages (i.e. other than UK) can sometimes take up to 6 weeks to clear customs so please be aware if your items are taking a long time to arrive - this may very well be the cause. If there is duty to pay you will be contacted by the customs authority to pay the additional customs due.
UK parcels are not deemed to be "lost" until after 15 working days
