Librarian Finds New Life for Obsolete Books

Books get worn, out of date or just plain tired. Many still have beautiful bindings, or jewel toned illustrations, or are long time favorites. I searched for a way to use these books rather than toss them into recycling. I have always loved boxes for storage. My collection includes elaborately carved ones, as well as cigar boxes. One day I realized that an outdated "Children's Catalog" with a sturdy red binding and gold lettering was the same size as one of my cigar boxes. I respectfully removed the obsolete pages, fit the cigar box within the book binding, affixed a purse handle and created my first book purse.
